This old fashion trend has made a huge comeback, and so far we have seen celebrities all around the globe sporting them. Culottes of all shapes and sizes are the definite 'it' garments for this spring/summer.
Indian designer Rimi Nayak has stated: "They are definitely in because of their look, they are not long, above the ankle and have a loose fit. Their smooth structure makes them a hit among fashion lovers. Culottes are comfortable as they are made out of linen and suiting fabric."
India’s much love fashion designer Anita Dongre also believes that culottes are the elite choice for spring/summer, stating that the pant-shorts hybrid has gained a huge amount of style momentum in the past month or so due to their versatility and seek and stylish look, which tick all the box’s for work wear, sporty luxe and neutral classic ensembles. Anita Dongre has stated that they are transitional pieces, the perfect garment to wear between the spring/summer months.
For those of you who haven’t heard of culottes yet, they are short/above ankle length trousers that can look like a skirt given their voluptuous silhouette and flattering hemline. When teamed with the right accessories, make-up and hair, this look can be one that’s not to be missed! Bright colours such as blues, reds and oranges are the colours to look out for this season, according Vogue India.
Anita Dongre’s style advice for culottes is to: “sport them on a date night with a simple camisole t-shirt and minimal strappy heels, or team with statement jewellery and pastel tones for an easy and stylish way to rock the look”
Anita Dongre has also stated that Malaika Arora Khan and Ileana D'Cruz will soon be sporting culottes made by her.
Unlike palazzos and slim fit pants that look good mainly on taller women, culottes are for all and suit all body shapes. For this spring/summer culottes in denims, mixed prints pastel colours such as camel, light brown, powder blue, nude and mint greens would look great teamed with a glowing tan.

She was recently seen wearing a Rajesh Pratap outfit that included classy black culottes in an extreme flattering and trendy silhouette. She teamed the outfit with a subtle bracelet and classic black pumps, and looked fantastic!
The main style advice we would give to anyone who’s thinking about investing in a pair of culottes would be to take direction from the style Queen that is Anita Dongre and go bold and experiment with shapes and colours that suit your personal style. Short tops/crop tops go best with most culottes as they highlight a defined waistline and give you a flattering defined shoulder line. In terms of footwear, the world is your oyster! Strappy heels go exceptionally with culottes and can we worn both for a night out or a day at the office.
