The Amazon India Couture Week 2015, held from 29th July to Aug 2nd, at New Delhi’s Taj Palace was a lavish spectacle of Indian couture. The grandeur of the show was escalated by the showstoppers adding glamour to the event. Any successful event needs drama and excitement, and the dazzling showstoppers brought these elements to Amazon India Couture Week 2015.
This year the curtains of Amazon couture week came up with the opening show of the maestro Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Instead of using a showstopper model for his attires, his attention grabber was Christian Louboutin, the famous French footwear designer. He paired his sparkling attires with embroidered Christian Louboutin footwear, with trademark red lacquered soles. At the end of the show, Sabyasachi shared his walk of fame too with Christian Louboutin.
On Day 2 of Amazon India Couture Week 2015, while Rahul Mishra refrained from using a showstopper, Kalki Koechlin played the perfect muse to Gaurav Gupta. She walked in a one-shouldered, champagne coloured, layered organza gown replete with metallic ear accessories and high hair-do. She came across as the perfect nymph for Gaurav Gupta’s enchanted forest.
Amazon India Couture Week’s third day witnessed a plethora of showstoppers walking for Monisha Jaising. Her “sailing bride” collection focussed on the relaxed yet chic bride. Her concept was delivered perfectly through Kriti Sanon’s unique fusion outfit. Wearing a grey tank top over an embellished grey lehenga matched with embroidered sneakers and stole, Kriti was a show stealer. Pernia Qureshi and Imran Abbas, who will be seen together in the upcoming movie Jaanisaar, also walked the ramp for Monisha Jaising. Pernia Qureshi opened her show in a steel blue strapless gown embellished with mirror work.
Reynu Taandon opened the day 4 of Amazon India Couture Week 2015 and Richa Chadda of ‘Masaan’ fame graced her show wearing a scarlet and gold bridal wear lehenga with zari and booti work. Looking like the perfect Mughal Empress with the paasa on hair and visible nath, she was an epitome of regal grace on the ramp. Rimple and Harpreet Narula continued the regal legacy through Shilpa Shetty in a golden lehenga. Shilpa looked the befitting queen of the show celebrating regal insignias.
The closing show of the day by Kolkata based designer Debarun Mukherjee paid homage to the different periods in Indian cinema. Aditi Rao Hydari looked resplendent walking demurely, to the song of 1947 movie Dard, in a grey lehenga choli with sequinned dupatta. From 1940’s black and white era traversing through Eastman colour period, the show went ahead to the current times coming to an end with the gorgeous Chitrangada Singh. Chitrangada Singh walked the film inspired runway wearing a cream coloured lehenga with maroon floral embroidery and sheer dupatta. Heavy necklaces completed her look, making her look like a true Bollywood princess bride.
The last day of Amazon couture week saw heavyweight names in Bollywood as showstoppers. The day began with Manav Gangwani’s ‘Le’amoureuse’ (beloved) collection with a French theme comprising of effeminate romantic outfits. Kangana Ranaut the beloved lady of Bollywood walked for him as the showstopper wearing a purple-wine coloured gown with a plunging neckline.
The grand finale that brought down the curtains on Amazon India Couture Week 2015 was under the helm of Manish Malhotra. The grand finale did end with a grand showstopper making a comeback on the ramp for Manish after five years. The showstopper was none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who swept the ramp with her sophistication, in a burgundy and gold embellished skirt with a matching blouse under a glitzy shrug. Aishwarya cast a spell on the audience as she walked the runway looking ravishing.
The sensual charisma of the designers’ muse'es accentuated their creations on the runway of Amazon India Couture Week 2015. The beautiful and stunning outfits of the showstoppers spoke volumes about the passion and fervour that made the endeavour called Amazon India Couture Week 2015 a reality.
