Bollywood fashion is the chief source of fashion inspiration in India. The fashion forward Indians look up to Bollywood designer dresses for style inspiration and to find the latest trends in the world of fashion.

Social media has played a major role in bringing celebrity fashion to the masses and today it has given people instant access to the label or the designer that the celebrity is wearing and the accessories that make up the ensemble. As a result, emulating the look has become much easier.

However, not all Bollywood celebrity outfits are worthy of emulating. Celebrities have their fair share of hits and misses when it comes to styling Bollywood designer dresses. For every outfit that has made us go ‘wow’ there have been four outfits that have made us gp 'ew'. We’ve sifted through a ton of ensembles to bring to you these six amazing designer looks from Bollywood actresses with impeccable styling.

We’ve brought to you a wide range of dresses from airport sightings to Bollywood red carpet dresses for an all round style inspiration.

Airport Look

When film actors travel, they never forget their protocol glares and multipurpose jackets. This is one instance where we’ve seen actors give their Bollywood designer dresses a miss to opt for high street or designer labels that spell comfort and practicality.

Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone usually figure in our list of favourite airport appearances but this time around, we decided to feature Kareena Kapoor who never fails to impress us with her casual, yet well put-together looks. On this particular day, she was spotted wearing a yellow tank top with flared jeans and a military jacket thrown over that tied together the look so well. She paired the outfit with a tan tote, platform heels and classic aviators. Spot on casual airport look, we’d say!

To get a similar look, stick to wearing casuals that you are most comfortable in and pair it with a jacket or a scarf that can come in handy during the flight.

Film Promotion Look

Promoting a film presents actors and actresses with the perfect opportunity to step out in their best Bollywood designer dresses, for this is the time when the spotlight is totally on them.

Bollywood designer dresses worn for promotions are normally on trend and are the season’s newest offerings. For this very reason, we did a double take when Katrina Kaif turned up for the promotions of her movie Fitoor in a colour blocked outfit that was so last year’s hot trend. But the red and pink Jill Jill Struart outfit had us all lusting after the beautiful combination and faultless styling that made her look like the queen of colour blocking. More power to Katrina for experimenting with her look!

A dress like this is perfect for a cocktail party or a formal event and will make all the impact even with minimal accessories.

Film Premiere Look

With Bollywood films becoming bigger in terms of budget, holding premieres for the film fraternity has almost become a norm these days. Celebrities leverage the event to doll up in their designer best and make the event a high fashion affair. The interest in fashion during these events is so much that sometimes the focus shifts away from the movie and the spotlight falls on fashion. Though there isn’t a dress code for such occasions, celebrities either choose formal Bollywood designer dresses or settle for semi-formal outfits, usually separates, that can show off their stylist’s talent.

Our favourite ‘Premiere look’ from recent times was by Aditi Rao Hyadri who attended the screening of her own film, Wazir in a floral Rohit Bal anarkali with gold trimmings and jhumkas by Aquamarine. We loved the choice of outfit and the way the jhumka brought the look together.

This ensemble can be a great pick when attending a wedding in the family or for a festive occasion when you want to look your traditional best.

Wedding Bridal Look

Our favourite Bollywood bride from recent times has got to be Dia Mirza who charmed us with her sartorial choices that went into picking the trousseau. Of all the beautiful and elegant Bollywood designer dresses that she wore during various events, we loved her Shantanu and Nikhil lehenga that she wore for her reception the most. Its peach and pink colour combination gave Dia a dewy look that was understated and yet elegant. Full marks for her choice of emerald and diamond jewellery and a chic hairdo that elevated the beauty of the ensemble.

If you are taking cue from this appearance when putting together your bridal look, pay special heed to her makeup for it can make or break an outfit.

Wedding Guest Look

What do you wear when you are a guest to a wedding and do not want your extravagant Bollywood designer dress to overshadow the bridal ensemble? The tact is in choosing a dress that flatters your body, has minimal but exquisite embellishments and is crafted out of expensive fabric. Something like what Kriti Sanon chose for Manish Malhotra’s niece's sangeet. The purple kalidar kurta featured a high neck and beautiful embroidery on the neck and hem. We thought the colour suited her complexion really well and appreciate her styling it with minimal accessories to suit a wedding guest.

Red Carpet Look

Sonam Kapoor is one Bollywood celebrity who’s got all eyes fixated on her when she walks the red carpet. We know for sure that many Bollywood actresses nurse a secret desire to steal either her stylist or wardrobe itself! One of our favourite red carpet looks is from Cannes 2011 where she was a vision in a Jean Paul Gaultier gown. With the beautiful dress and her impeccable styling, Sonam did leave all the others far behind in the red carpet game that year. The structured white gown with a single sheer sleeve and a dramatic tail remains one of her best red carpet appearances to this day.
