Mira Rajput was recently embroiled in yet another controversy for featuring in an advertisement for Olay face cream. Many Bollywood actresses have endorsed the brand known for creating anti-ageing products but they’ve mainly been of a certain age. The backlash against Mira was the fact that she’s only 23 and much too young to be promoting anti-ageing. Olay was quick to react to her detractors by confirming that the cream in question was for radiance and brightness rather than anti-ageing. Their choice of Mira as brand ambassador was primarily rooted in the fact that she’s a young mother of one and soon to-be-mom to her second so the stresses of motherhood often show signs on the facial skin.
In her defence Mira Rajput has always handled any criticism hurled against her with the poise and dignity of someone much older and more seasoned at the fame game. This instance was no different as she chose to let the brand defend their choice of her rather than make public statements to protect her own image. She’s been vociferous about her life decisions of getting married very young to someone 13 years her senior as well as having children very quickly. Many have termed her an archaic anti-feminist while others don’t consider her worthy of so much attention and write her off as another star wife. However, as it goes with both good and bad publicity, the result is that it’s impossible to ignore Mira Rajput.
Serious debates aside the young woman definitely knows a thing or two about dressing chic and modern. She has been the subject of constant speculations about her fashion choices and has mostly come out on top of all the best-dressed lists. When news of her second pregnancy broke, all eyes were on her again to see if she would maintain or up her style game for round two. Her admirers were not disappointed because Mira definitely learnt a few key lessons on pregnancy dressing and turned up in envy-worthy looks every time.
Mira has gone on record to say that she doesn’t like to spend only on high-end labels and likes to mix it up with both luxury and affordable pieces. Her style is laid-back and extremely accessible making her a fantastic style icon for women everywhere. She expertly styled her pregnancy looks to suit her changing shape while always staying true to her own aesthetic. While most women would turn to shapeless sacks to hide their growing bump, Mira decided to camouflage hers but never hide it entirely. The result was structured silhouettes that were form fitting yet flattering. Mira aced both western and ethnic looks in equal measure and joined the list of Bollywood’s A-list moms who didn’t let pregnancy stop them from embracing fashion.
As is often the case in celebrity pregnancies, speculations about Mira’s second were already doing the rounds. Pictures of her in a pair of easy fit blue palazzo trousers and a printed tee emerged that showed her looking bigger than usual. Shortly after, both Shahid and Mira confirmed the news through their Instagram accounts.

Mira was definitely an experienced pregnancy dresser by this time, as she knew how to interplay textures and colours to hide her bump without wearing something totally shapeless. She was seen hand in hand with Shahid wearing a grey plaid high-waisted skirt and tulip sleeve black blouse. Both the top and bottom were relaxed yet not completely loose giving her some shape.

When she started to show a little more, Mira was in that sweet spot where the rest of her figure was pretty much intact. She flaunted the very on-point strapless trend with a blue top and fitted white jeans.

As her pregnancy progressed, Mira did her own take on the classic ‘black is slimming’ adage by picking all black ensembles. She was seen in a straight fitted black dress that showed an otherwise toned Mira with just a hint of a tummy.

Mira wore all-black once again when she wore a V-neck short black romper for a night out with her friends. She paired the one piece with a colour block bag and her signature sleek straight hair.

More recently Mira has been seen in whites and pastels to keep her cool in the hot and humid monsoons. The couple was seen out and about in their casual best. Mira wore a very simple cotton printed dress with a tie-up belt paired with white sneakers and rose tinted sunnies.

There is nothing comfier than jeans but every pregnant lady knows that waistbands are not your friends once you start to really show. Mira did denim in the form of a shift dress with frill sleeves and the result is oh-so-adorable!

One of the latest pictures of the glowing mother-to-be was from her lemon themed baby shower. Mira was seen in a polka dotted strapless dress by Zimmermann. The under bust tie gave her some shape while also showing off her very obvious baby bump.

While western outfits may not pose such a challenge, it’s very common for Indian ladies for hide behind sarees for ethnic wear. Thankfully Mira took a page out the books of stylish yummy-mommies before her and turned up in some absolutely fabulous Indian looks. She attended the Hello! Hall Of Fame Awards, to collect an award on behalf of Shahid, wearing a deconstructed Shantanu and Nikhil saree. The monochrome colour and the clever draping hid any trace of a bump while making her look svelte.

Even when attending one of the most talked about weddings of the year, Mira did not shy away from putting her most stylish foot forward. She attended the Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja reception in yet another interestingly draped saree with a waist-cinching belt. This particular design was by Anamika Khanna who also added a draped style petticoat to give the whole ensemble an interesting edge.

Mira was also seen at yet another high profile wedding, the engagement of Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta. This time around she wore a heavily embellished long kurta with a straight chiffon lehenga by Manish Malhotra. A heavily pregnant Mira looked resplendent in the outfit as the sparkly embroidery combined with the fit and flare silhouette of the kurta disguised her bump but also gave her some shape.
