Lakme Fashion Week has kicked off in full earnest in Mumbai - a grand multiple day extravaganza of some of the best Indian fashion designers showcasing their collections. Can it get more exciting than this? We don't think so !
The grand event kicked off on 22nd August 2013 and is going to go on until the 27th of August 2013. The event includes a combination of younger designers (the event organisers very smartly call them Gen Next) and very senior designers, but the common factors are the beautiful clothes and a healthy dose of Bollywood.
It has often been argued that Indian Designers only make Bridal clothes (and there is going to be plenty of those on show during the event), but for us, the very exciting aspects to look forward to includes the contemporary collections of the designers. These are the styles that we think have a universal appeal beyond the bridal trousseau.
Here are some of the things that caught our eye at Lakme Fashion Week so far - some for the styling, others for the beautiful Bollywood stars that walked the ramp for their "favourite" designers. At the time of writing this, Day 2 has just finished.
The designer of choice for all of Bollywood came out in style with a massive support from Bollywood stars. For us the beautiful colours and the combination of Traditional and Contemporary styles was a massive winner!
An interesting use of Black, White and Gold by the designer, including some very elaborate styles.
Payal Singhal's collections included a more monochrome colour palette compared to her previous collections. The detailing and styling however were impressive as always!
We have to confess, we LOVE Anita Dongre and her beautifully effortless style that is so beautifully timeless that it keeps drawing us in. We loved the use of colours in her collection.
Shantanu Goenka is known for his exquisite and finely crafted Indian Bridal clothes and his collection on the ramp certainly showed his authority and mastery of his craft.
As mentioned in the introduction, almost no Indian Fashion show is complete without the appearance of a show-stopper, and there is no other way to do it, than to have a beautiful Bollywood star walk the ramp for you. And the designers have certainly had some absolutely stunning looking stars on the ramp.
