The hippy vibe has slowly creped back into the limelight this year and has quickly become one of this season’s biggest trends, which has been all over this season's runways. Think dreamy chiffon, decadent floaty silks, mixed prints, sheer loose kaftans, billowing maxi dresses, flares, and pretty crochet dresses that all revisit 70s styling at its most couture and lovely.
These boho vibes have swept through the recent runway collections like a much welcomed hot summer breeze, showcasing a spectacular range of retro prints, tie-dye effects and delightful folksy silhouettes and patterns.
Embrace this trend and your inner free-spirited, fun-loving woman, by traveling from festival to festival throughout the summer and teaming your hippy couture look with slouchy suede booties, feathers in your hair, and a dishevelled fringed bag.
We have gathered some of our favourite hippy couture looks from this season’s recent runways collections, see below for some serious wardrobe inspiration:
First up, Altuzarra’s recent runway collection was the optimum of decedent boho. This stunning collection is perfect for a summer evening event – the luxurious silk fabrics and plunge neck teamed with tie-dye effect washes and burnt colours create a match made in heaven for hippy couture. This has to be a firm favourite for us due to the mix of eveningwear and boho themes. This is a piece that would be sure to make you stand out of the crowd this summer.
Next up, Etro hit the nail on the head with their recent hippy couture collection on the runway. We love the Aztec meets Pocahontas theme teamed with layered floaty material and stylish plunge necks. The subtle but detailed prints create a sophisticated and elegant collection that is perfect for summer BBQ’s and day events, and would look stunning teamed with a pair of strappy heels and an embellished clutch. We particularly love the mid length style of this dress teamed with the mid length sleeves!
Roberto Cavalli’s recent runway collection embodied a brighter and bolder hippy chic theme that we just can’t get enough of! The collection featured a variety of bright coloured dresses showcasing acid tie-dye prints, high necks and detailed hippy embellishment that completes the outfits perfectly. This look had to be a favourite for us, and just screams festival chic. This outfit would look perfect teamed with a slouchy fringe bag and oversized round sunglasses; retro hippy fashion at it’s best!
Emilio Pucci went for a more elegant and lavish boho theme for his recent runway collection. We love the use of elegant silhouettes, subtle embellishment and bright colours that have come together to create the perfect summer dresses. We can see this look being worn to a summer ball or outdoor evening event. This look doesn’t require a lot of accessories, let the dress do the talking, we love how it’s been styled on the runway with a bare chest and soft loose curls.
Last but not least, Paul & Joe’s recent collection on the runway embodied dreamy loose billowy silhouettes and subtle mixed prints that are perfect for the beach. We love this sophisticated and casual boho style that could be worn either as evening attire or on the beach over swimwear. Versatility is key to this collection! We also love the unique cape element and soft autumnal colours. Team this type of look with a messy up do and a wedged sandal and you’re sure to turn some heads.
