The Amazon India Couture Week 2015 had twelve couturiers displaying their fantasies at New Delhi’s Taj Palace hotel.
This five-day event under the ageis of the FDCI was held in association with Sunar from July 29th to Aug 2nd 2015.
Eleven enchanting shows raised the bar of style at Amazon India Couture Week this year.
The opening show of Amazon India Couture Week was under the control of Sabyasachi Mukherjee. In collaboration with Christian Louboutin, the renowned French footwear designer, Sabyasachi enthralled the audience with his collection titled “Bater Couture”.
Stirring your heart in discomfort, the runway had a dark, haunted and dilapidated feel to it and the models displayed Sabya’s avante garde men’s and women’s couture in a fascinating way with minimal lighting. Indian style attires with contemporary touches resulted in an out-of-the-box and different presentation. The attires displayed heavy, glittering, thread and sequin embroidery, which glistened in the dark ambience.
The Day 2 of Amazon India Couture Week saw Rahul Mishra and Gaurav Gupta putting up a fascinating show. Beginning the day, Rahul Mishra, presented 34 garments bound by the theme of “Tree of Life”. The theme was visible in his attires displaying vine and floral embroidery, and leaf motifs in metallic prints.
Following Mishra, Gaurav Gupta presented his show titled “Silt and Cipher”. His models walked the ramp with golden make-up and layered outfits. Kalki Koechlin was his showstopper wearing a fairytale asymmetrically layered one shoulder gown. Both the designers made use of monochromatic and feminine ensembles.
Amazon India Couture Week celebrated Day 3 with the designers, Anju Modi, Monisha Jaising and Varun Bahl. Anju Modi kick-started the day with her collection “Kashish” which took inspiration from Persia. Her anarkalis and lehengas reflected the miniature art from Persian civilization.
Monisha Jaising presented “the Sailing Bride” with Pernia Qureshi, Imran Abbas and Kriti Sanon walking for her as the showstoppers. In sync with the title of the collection, the theme for the collection was presented on the runway resembling a luxury yacht. Taking inspiration from today’s bride who is laid back but sophisticated, she combined these concepts in her bridal outfits. Kriti Sanon walked in one such outfit which comprised of a singlet over a lehenga paired with embroidered sneakers.
Varun Bahl ended the day with “Flower Power”, which brought interesting use of floral motifs, floral embroidery and floral hues, to the ramp. Poppies and roses cheered up men’s sherwanis as well. The painstakingly nurtured fashion garden of Varun Bahl with the flower infused collection of shararas, sarees and gowns was breathtaking.

Later Kolkata based Debarun Mukherjee debuted his bridal collection at the Amazon India Couture Week. Through his show he paid a tribute to the Indian film industry by displaying ensembles inspired by Indian cinema from 1940’s till date. Aditi Rao Hydari opened Debarun’s show in a grey lehenga choli ensemble, walking to the song from the movie ‘Dard’. Chitrangada Singh also walked for the designer in a cream coloured lehenga choli with maroon motifs, in true Indian cinema style.
The final show of the day was by Rohit Bal who presented the collection “Husn-e-taa’iraat” meaning beauty of the bird. Rich velvets and silks ruled the runway with bird motifs and embroidery. His Amazon India Couture Week show displayed angrakha style dresses and jackets in varying lengths with interesting clustered cloth flower hair accessories. The menswear collection included bandgalas and jodhpur pants.

The collection was romantic and feminine with grey, coral, blue and wine colour palettes. Kangana Ranaut was the showstopper for his show wearing a purple-wine coloured heavy attire with a plunging neckline.
The Amazon India Couture Week came to a grand finale under the ace designer Manish Malhotra at the Leela hotel in Chanakyapuri. With the who’s who of Bollywood and fashion gracing the front rows of the show, Manish narrated the “Empress Story” with his regal outfits. Manish Malhotra played with traditional Indian wedding colours like red, brown and green, adding a shimmer factor to them. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ended the show and the event on a high note wearing a burgundy gold embellished skirt with a blouse and a glittery shrug.
