Usually, deciding on which TV show to watch is a rather difficult task in an Indian family. It involves a series of events that take place before the decision is made. Severe contemplation amongst family members followed by ‘remote snatching’ competitions and well, you know the drill, right? However, there is one evening every year when everybody in the family agrees on watching a particular show without creating a scene about it. Yes! It is the evening of the mighty Filmfare Awards!
Filmfare Awards is one of the oldest ceremonies in Bollywood and also the most prestigious. Like any other award function, Bollywood stars display their best fashion sensibilities as they walk down the red carpet and grace the occasion with their presence.
While, their performances on screen are appreciated and awarded, their fashion sense is also judged and assessed by the critiques. Some make the news for their flamboyant outfits and some fall prey to the harsh criticism thrown at them for their poor choice of clothes.
Here’s to those Filmfare looks we loved over the years and to those we couldn’t help but criticise.
At the Filmfare Award ceremony 2013, which was dominated by celebrities in black outfits, Sridevi shone in her tangerine Alberta Feratti gown. Jaws dropped as she walked down the carpet in utmost elegance. To add to her charm, she accessorized her outfit with a Judith Leiber giftbox minaudiere and beautiful diamond jewellery. Only a true diva can pull off an orange in a sea of black and that’s enough reason for us to proclaim her as the best dressed star at Filmfare Award ceremony 2013.
Vanya Mishra, Miss India world 2012 couldn’t impress us in her one shoulder black dress with gold motifs. It was perhaps too simple for Filmfare and hence couldn’t compete with other eye catching outfits at the event. She did look sexy, but definitely not sexy enough. She failed to crank the the ‘sass meter’ that evening and hence, with a heavy heart, we label her as the worst dressed at Filmfare Award ceremony 2013.
The international sensation, Priyanka Chopra was in the limelight at the Filmfare Awards 2014 for all the right reasons. She hosted the event in a flattering off-shoulder, gold embroidered peplum gown by Alexander McQueen. She ruled the red carpet in her body hugging black gown and nobody could take their eyes off this bold and beautiful lady. With minimal accessories and a classy hairdo she maintained the modishness of her outfit. She sure did win our hearts and but obviously the title of the best dressed celebrity at the 2014 Filmfare Award ceremony.
However, PC shares her title with a man of much wit and grandeur, Ranvir Singh. He wore printed floral laid back tux with the navy trousers and velvet loafers and completed the look with slicked back hair. Surprisingly, this bold look of the actor, unlike many others, was appreciated and praised so much that we couldn’t help but mention him with Priyanka Chopra in the category of best dressed actors.
The ‘Rock On!’ actress Prachi Desai’s outfit was what seemed like a fashion debacle. The peach thigh high slit gown with the giant sash around her waist just didn’t do the trick and appeared tacky. Neither the colour nor the design worked for her that evening. She also looked extremely uncomfortable in her outfit. The matching golden clutch with open toed stilettos did no good either. Overall, it just wasn’t glam enough and so she tops our list of the worst dressed celebrities at the 2015 Filmfare award ceremony.
In 2015, it was none other than the spectacular Deepika Padukone who stole the show at the Filmfare award ceremony. She appeared on the carpet looking like an angel in her all white Ashi Studio gown. Her gothic lips and white stilettos enhanced her look even more. With this look she proved that she is the undisputed queen of the red carpet!
Guess who else showed up in white and also rocked the red carpet with his look? Varun Dhavan! Yes, ditching the standard black, he showed up in a white Emporio Armani suit and paired it up with black shoes and tie. For his unique attempt at suits alone, we declare him to be the best dressed along with Deepika!
The woman who celebrates the culture of wearing sarees at every occasion possible and nails it pretty much every time, missed the mark this time. Yes, we are talking about Vidya Balan. She wore a silver saree with a blue blouse by Sabyasachi. Her blouse did not fit her properly and appeared lousy. Nothing really worked for her that evening, she ended up looking more like an air hostess than the Bollywood diva we all love. Therefore, she was the worst dressed at the Filmfare 2015 award ceremony.
And the award for the best dressed at the Filmfare 2016 goes to the enchanting Alia Bhatt! She showed up in a printed Sachin & Babi gown and shoulder length wavy hair that made her look adorable. But what caught our attention were her heels. She wore a pair by Manolo Blahniks, one foot orange and another nude and completely owned it. It was a rather refreshing look.
Irfan Khan’s look at the Filmfare 2016 was nothing like his brilliant acting skills. He was seen in a Rohit Bal Jacket with white Jodhpuri pants. The ill fitted pants didn’t go with his awesome personality and the jacket, we thought, was a little over-the-top. He couldn’t quite impress us with his fashion sensibilities at the Filmfare 2016 and hence topped the list of worst dressed at the event.
The fashion icon, Sonam Kapoor seldom disappoints us with her red carpet looks and even this time she was slaying in her daring white floral gown by Ellie Saab. The diva completed her look with a neat hair bun and maroon lip colour. We couldn’t have asked for anything more from this fashionista! She truly deserves the best dressed title at the Filmfare award ceremony 2017.
Bhumi Pednekar disappointed us with her outfit big time! She wore a black gown by Hemakaul and was styled by Shaina Nath. It was a rather clumsy look and overall she failed to impress us. She definitely was the least attractive at the red carpet this year.
