The fourth edition of the Delhi Couture Week, India’s premiere fashion event for designers and fashionistas, ran between July 31 and August 4.
Kicking off the show were designers Anju Modi and Sabyasachi Mukherjee with their respective collections ‘Drapaudi’ and ‘Opium’. Actress Tabu was the star of Modi’s show, appearing as a modern-day Drapaudi with an elegant red and golden lehenga paired stylishly with a full-sleeved velvel blouse.
The event was held at the Taj Palace Hotel, an appropriately luxurious venue for an event attended by the country’s most élite designers. In attendance were:
As is to be expected for such a glittering cast of designers, big names from Bollywood, retail, television and the media were in attendance. Since the days of the maharajahs, haute couture has played a huge part in Indian society; the Couture Week is a modern manifestation of this historical trend.
Our pick of the week has to be Manish Malhotra, whose collection was worn by none other than Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, stars of the upcoming Chennai Express. The collection had a touch of vintage Indian luxury about it, and was comprised of a royal blue and gold zardozi outfit for Deepika, whilst Shahrukh appeared in a stylish black suit with waistcoat and an open-collared shirt.
Also not to be missed was Satya Paul’s jewellery show for PCJ, which featured exquisite polki and diamond jewels, adding more than a bit of sparkle to the show.
