Vogue is synonymous with being the fashion bible of the elite since forever and Vogue India is definitely in the same league. The styling teams at the venerated publication realized that Indian brides need much more of a personal touch when it comes to their trousseau needs. They conceptualised a luxe shopping event called the Vogue Wedding Show curated especially for brides who covet high end Indian designer wear. The ‘invite only’ event brings together the very best of the Indian wedding industry. The show features Indian fashion designers, jewellery labels, makeup artists, hairdressers, décor consultants and wedding coordinators who are at the top of their game in their respective fields. Needless to say the event is one serious indulgence extravaganza for brides who need to connect with the correct vendors.

The sixth edition of the Vogue Wedding Show was held in Delhi from August 3rd to 5th at the Taj Palace Hotel. Actress Kangana Ranaut was roped in to be the face of the event and a subsequent magazine issue featured several spreads of her showcasing the participants’ collections and talents. Experts like Vogue head stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania and makeup artist extraordinaire Namrata Soni were amongst the many others who conducted workshops to instruct brides-to-be on how to carefully craft their own wedding looks. Ace Indian designers like Anita Dongre, Manish Malhotra, Sabysachi Mukherjee, Tarun Tahiliani, Gaurav Gupta and Rahul Mishra were present for personal consultations. A rare treat for brides who can’t wait to drop some serious dough on luscious wedding attire from their coveted design houses.

The couturiers also showcased some gorgeous collections with fashion shows and design showcases. This is where the Vogue Wedding Show differentiates itself from regular fashion weeks, because the attendees had the exceptional opportunity to interact with the creators as well as the garments. Sabyasachi Mukherjee

Pioneer of Indian craftsmanship and creator of bespoke designs that are the stuff of bridal dreams, Sabyasachi’s label is entrenched in a seamless blend of vintage and modern. His pieces are for brides who seek luxury with a conscience as they breath life into the dying indigenous arts and crafts industries of India. Sabyasachi’s collection at the Vogue Wedding Show was all about retro bohemian glamour for destination weddings. Bright florals, mirror work and multi coloured Parsi thread work with a tropical edge were prominent throughout the embellishments.

Bollywood’s go-to Indian designer, Manish Malhotra’s creations are for the modern bride who wants to flaunt it. Known for his jaw-droppingly sensuous silhouettes that have adorned many Bollywood starlets, Manish Malhotra’s collection for the Vogue Wedding Show had the same sense of glamour and oomph. Created for the stylish young bride and her entourage, every piece combined contemporary silhouettes with intricate handcrafted Indian embroideries.

Anita Dongre

The grand dame of Indian fashion, Anita Dongre introduced her ‘Diary Of A Rajkumari’ collection at the Vogue Wedding Show. Time-honoured techniques like gota patti embroidery, Banarasi saris and lehengas in opulent silks were fused together with contemporary aesthetics to create winning bridal looks. The collection was replete with quintessential reds and pinks but also included fresh shades of blue, green and ivory.

Tarun Tahiliani

If it’s ‘Modern India’ that you’re after then nothing beats the sublime elegance of Tarun Tahiliani’s creations. The ethnically seeped collection at the Vogue Wedding Show drew its inspiration from sparkly heavenly bodies like stars and constellations. The abstract motifs were interspersed with floral details and Baroque inspired embellishments in materials like Chantilly lace, rose-gold threads and Swarovski crystals. The colour palette ranged from European pastels on one end to vibrant and bold Indian hues on the other.

Falguni & Shane Peacock

The husband-wife duo introduced their ‘Amour De Junagarh’ collection at the Vogue Wedding Show. It follows the love story of a Parisienne queen who falls head over heels for an Indian prince and follows him to the Junagarh Fort mela in Rajasthan. The collection recreated the grandeur of this romanticism with an array of bridal lehengas and voluminous gowns that merged western and Indian sensibilities. The colours were decidedly subdued and ranged from nudes to pastels especially featuring pieces in powder blue accented with jewel tones.

With this collection the designer duo were making a strong statement about the fight against gender biases using the emotional connect of the armed forces struggling against the enemy outside and within.
