Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016 (AIFW SS16) unleashed its magic in Delhi yesterday. The magic will continue to enchant its audience for four more days, from 8th to 11th October 2015. The event aims to promote the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s initiative, ‘Make in India’, which is aimed at turning India into a global manufacturing hub.
Adding sparkle to the event full of inimitable outfits from talented designers and stunning sashaying models, were the celebrities who came to champion their favourite designers and marvel at the new collections.
Sanjay Garg of Raw Mango, a designer brand from New Delhi, opened the show with his debut collection called ‘Mashru’. The front rows of his show - displaying an earthy collection - were graced by Deepti Naval, Konkana Sen Sharma, Soha Ali Khan and Mini Mathur.

Deepti Naval, the famous parallel cinema artist from yesteryear, looked sophisticated in a white Chanderi saree designed by Sanjay Garg. The saree’s golden and blue trim worked beautifully with her reddish pink blouse and a matched clutch. Deepti is a rare sight on the Indian fashion scene and she seemed to enjoy her stint at Sanjay’s show.
Soha Ali Khan looked all peaches and cream in a single tone peach anarkali suit paired with an ivory bag with golden metallic straps.
Konkana Sen Sharma was seen wearing a green saree with contrasting printed blouse. Her minimal accessories included golden earrings and a cross body bag. It was brave of Konkana to match the cross body bag look with a saree, but she managed to pull it off beautifully. The actress also wore mogra flowers distributed at the venue, around her wrist ensuring that the smell of mogra wafted at the ethnically connected show.
Mini Mathur made a striking fashion statement by wearing a monochromatic grey belted saree with a stripy blouse.
Pernia Qureshi was also spotted on day 1 of Amazon India Fashion Week wearing a Payal Khandwala relaxed slit dress. She coordinated her look with a chain strap bag and Dolce and Gabbana shoes. Pernia also happily displayed the mogra garland in sync with the venue’s theme.
The Indian TV anchor, Ambika Anand, was seen wearing a cape dress by Anamika Khanna. Casual shoes and denims completed her quirky look. In addition, Bollywood actor, Milind Gunaji made an appearance wearing khaki jodhpuri pants with brownish green bandgala.
The above celebrities added glamour to day 1 of the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016 and as we all know, no Indian fashion show is complete, without some Bollywood spice. Watch this space to see which celebrities attend day 2!
