In India, one is considered to have reached the pinnacle of success in the film industry the moment they bag one of the Filmfare awards.
Every year, the entire country waits with bated breath to find out who takes home the black lady for technical and artistic excellence in various categories.
The Filmfare Awards ceremony held in Mumbai every year draws attention from every cinema lover and spotlights from the press all over the country. It is therefore not a surprise that all the celebrities are dressed in their glamorous best to outdo each other on the red carpet, making it a treat for all the fashion lovers across the country. This year was also a Bollywood fashion extravaganza with all the big names in Bollywood gracing the red carpet with their presence in their finest designer outfits.
While Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh walked away with the big awards of the Best Actor and the Best Actress, let us see who was dressed well enough to be amongst the best dressed celebrities at the 61st Filmfare Awards this year.
Filmfare’s January cover has a pretty picture of Deepika Padukone with the tag ‘Hail the Queen’. The leggy lass who won the Best Actress Filmfare award this year looked every bit the Bollywood queen in her dramatic red Ralph & Russo Couture gown with a cowl back. She finished the look with a neat bun, red sandals and ruby earrings from Anmol. We loved her chiselled look and the sophisticated elegance that she exuded. Though the makeup was a tad bit too greasy, we ain’t complaining much after taking a look at the entire outfit.
It would be a surprise if we compiled a best dressed list and Bollywood fashionista Sonam Kapoor was not a part of it. She graced the red carpet of the Filmfare Awards 2016 in a floral Anamika Khanna number with a sheer dupatta worn like a cape. She completed the look with an emerald statement necklace that elevated the beauty of the ensemble. While she definitely looked better than most stars on the awards night and deserved this spot well, we would certainly want her to give this signature Anamika Khanna look a break and try something new next time around!
Parineeti Chopra showed off her recently acquired figure in a sexy black Shivan & Narresh gown that she paired with strappy Steve Madden heels. A Judith Leiber ‘Relax’ clutch and a ponytail finished her look. The actress, who has previously drawn a lot of flak from Bollywood fashion critics for her choices has almost had a makeover of sorts after dropping a few pounds. We loved the way she showed off her curves and appreciated how comfortable she looked in carrying it. Our only issue is that she could have gone for a bolder lip colour or eye makeup.
Though Alia did not walk the red carpet, she made an appearance on the stage for a performance in a Sachin and Babi gown. She looked so good in it that we thought it should be featured in the list. With vibrant orange flowers splashed on a pastel gown, she made us sit up and take notice by pairing the gown with different coloured Monolos to match the dress! Take a bow, lady!
And when we have all these beautiful ladies, how can we possibly leave out the dashing men? On our list of the best dressed men at the Filmfare Awards 2016 are:
Move aside all the men in ‘propah’ black jackets because Ranveer Singh has turned up in a printed Tom Ford jacket to set the red carpet on fire! Wearing the jacket from Tom Ford’s AW’15 collection and pairing it with a white shirt and a black bowtie, Ranveer finished the look with patent leather shoes. What’s not to love about such a look that is so unconventional yet arresting?
Fawad Khan proved that he is well ahead of the times with his sartorial tastes once again by appearing in a Brooks Brother’s tartan jacket paired with ankle length Camessi trousers and Louboutin slippers. Impossibly charming is the word that comes to our mind when we look at him!
Now that you have seen all our favourite celebrity appearances at the Filmfare Awards 2016, which look do you think was the best of the lot?
