Lakme Winter Festive 2015 will be held at the Palladium Hotel in Mumbai from 26th August to 30th August. It is Lakme Fashion Week’s tradition to give ode to the natural fabrics spun from the rich cultural heritage of the country, by having a day dedicated to Indian handlooms and textiles. The Indian handlooms and textiles day, generally on Day 2 of the event is run with the support of the Ministry of Textiles. Having seen around seven seasons successfully, this initiative has come a long way in helping to revive Indian textiles and crafts since its launch in 2012.
The handloom and textile day is all set to add splendour to Lakme Winter Festive 2015. Shaina N C, fashion designer and politician, is the torchbearer of the handloom event this Winter Festive 2015 and she is channelling this initiative titled “Reinvent Banaras” towards revival of handlooms from Banaras.

The handloom and textile day initiative by Lakme Fashion Week is a way to give back to the artisans their due credit for offering a rich platform to the designers, to work with. While most of the information is still under wraps, Bollywood presence at Lakme Winter Festive 2015 is greatly anticipated. Continuing tradition, we hope to see Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kareena Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri and maybe Ranbir Kapoor too in show stopping ensembles.
Continuing her grand finale tradition, Kareena Kapoor Khan will be the showstopper for Gaurav Gupta this Lakme Winter Festive 2015. Anamika Khanna brought the curtains down on the Summer Resort show this year with Kareena Kapoor, presenting the Sculpt concept of Lakme through her collection. Kareena, the face of Lakme, will be ruling the Sculpt line again for the Winter Festive show under Gaurav Gupta, who will be carrying forward the structured look of Sculpt. Closing the Lakme show for the first time, Gaurav Gupta is very pleased to have Kareena Kapoor as his grand finale lady.
Another Bollywood diva to watch out for is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Aishwarya Rai was the perfect showstopper for Manish Malhotra’s closing show ‘The Empress Story’ at the Amazon India Couture Week 2015. She walked the ramp as a showstopper after five years for Manish Malhotra. Speculations are that this trend will be continued at Lakme Winter Festive 2015.
Kareena Kapoor for Manish Malhotra’s Grand Finale
Kareena Kapoor seems to be the hot choice as a showstopper for Lakme grand finales. She was the showstopper for Manish Malhotra at Lakme Winter Festive 2014 as well as for Anamika Khanna at Lakme Summer Resort 2015. At the Winter Festive 2014, she looked amazing in a four piece glittering gray and purple lehenga, with a mirror work embellished choli and a shimmering sheer jacket that had a slit in front of the lehenga. The jacket had abstract line patterns to the contrasting rose embroidery on the stole. She shared the ramp with another Bollywood heart throb, Varun Dhawan.
Day 5: Malaika Arora Khan for Sonaakshi Raaj
Sonaakshi Raaj’s “Rebel with a cause” collection saw Malaika Arora Khan as the showstopper. She donned a rebellious red coloured gown which was very feminine. It had a fitted silhouette up to the thighs, with delicate vine embroidery running around the body. The flared tulle at the bottom made the gown very fascinating. Malaika, with her side swept hair and glamorous outfit oozed oodles of feminine charm.
Sushmita Sen for Amit Aggarwal’s opening show
Sushmita Sen walked the ramp for Amit Aggarwal at the Lakme Winter Festive 2014. Her outfit had a fitted silhouette and was a black sheer stripy number with a nude fitted bodice gown underneath. A flared skirt attached to the belted waist added volume while keeping the structure of the outfit. Amit Aggarwal’s line played mostly with geometrical patterns and Sushmita’s soft curls played well with her linear outfit as she sashayed down the ramp with her signature smile.
Shilpa Shetty for Masaba’s opening show
Following Amit Aggarwal for the opening show of Winter Festive 2014, Masaba presented her quirky line with Shilpa Shetty as the showstopper. Shilpa’s svelte figure did justice to the lean body hugging outfit with full sleeves and cut-outs on both sides of the waist. The gray outfit had dish and spoon prints all over it. The zari border on the bottom hem and the white draped dupatta with the same zari border gave it an Indian touch. With dark eyes and parted hairdo, Shilpa walked tall all the way.
Day 5: Priyanka Chopra in show 5 for Varun Bahl
Priyanka Chopra played the showstopper for Varun Bahl at the Lakme Winter Festive 2014. Her look is unique when compared to other showstoppers because it is understated yet very stylish. Loose fitting black trousers with black crop top and shimmering silver jacket with a statement neckpiece, spells uber elegance. The highlight of the look is also the hairstyle. The cropped puffed hairdo complements the outfit, adding a chic factor.
In August 1999, the Lakme Fashion week made its debut in the Indian fashion scenario at Delhi’s Taj Palace, under FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India). As the name suggests, Lakme - the Indian cosmetic giant, is the chief sponsor of the event. Today, the Lakme fashion week is one of the most anticipated event for all fashion connoisseurs in India. This grand staging of high fashion is a biannual event, with the summer resort show held in March and the Winter Festive show held in August.
As the glamour of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2015 beckons the who’s who in fashion, the Palladium hotel turns host for the event. The Palladium is located in Lower Parel area, which lies in the heart of Mumbai city. The Parel area was one of the original seven islands that formed Bombay. In 1980’s this area was mostly occupied by textile mills which subsequently shut down and today the area has been revamped to emerge as one of the plushest commercial and residential areas in Mumbai.
Parel is 7 km away from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station, 5 km away from Mumbai Central train station and about 18 km from Santacruz domestic airport. Multitude of hotels like ITC Grand Central, Taj Lands End and Four Seasons are ideal in case you are in Mumbai from out of town to attend the event.
Lakme fashion show’s official venue partner, the Palladium hotel will be staging the main show in ‘The Ballroom’ which is a 23 ft high wonder without any obstructing columns and hence befitting to be the runway on level 9 of the hotel. All the stalls for the designers will be set on the floor below, level 8. This will be the prime destination where buyers can interact with the designers, check out their collection and place orders.
The event will have two whole levels of the Palladium, Level 8 and 9, to itself, which is a total of around 45,000 sq ft of space to accommodate the display needs from over 100 designers. These levels will see heavy traffic from designers, models, fashion reporters, celebrities and the every year increasing buyers. The hotel will be providing ample parking space with around 50 valets to make arriving at the destination smooth. Also the central destination of the hotel in Mumbai and the indoor location of the show during monsoon should make the influx of guests smoother.
The event destination is housed in the Phoenix High Street mall which is a hub to satiate all the entertainment needs with a bevy of stores, restaurants, clubs and multiplexes. The palladium hotel is the tallest luxury hotel in India and the profligacy it offers, just switches off the lunacy of the city! The Piano Lounge, Seven Kitchens and the Sahib Room & Kipling Bar restaurants are in close proximity of the show at Level 9. By the Mekong, Yuuka, Li Bai (Bar and Lounge) and Exo (the bar and night club) are located at the 37th or the penthouse level of Palladium giving you breathtaking views of the city disappearing into the Arabian Sea. Asilo is the rooftop restaurant that gives a panoramic view of the city with Mediterranean ambiance. Most of the facilities are strategically located around the action port on Level 9 or the higher levels dissipating your anxiety of the event.
If you are registered as a buyer for the Lakme Fashion Week, the Palladium also boasts of state of the art boardrooms and staterooms on level 8. The business center also meets all the business conferencing needs. The private business suites of the 34th, 35th and 36th are a haven of comfort for business requisites offered to the privileged few. Equus the business club for members is another tactically relevant benefit offered by the Palladium to its business visitors.
If the Palladium is not enough then you have the whole High street Phoenix mall to explore. This mall which houses Palladium is also home to many premium brand stores like Emporio Armani, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Satya Paul and Ritu Kumar. The mall’s Skyzone, an indoor trampoline park, is also a great place for fitness lovers without the boredom of a fitness routine. Plus the Phoenix has added the Grand Galleria, another shopping destination with a multiplex in its vicinity.
The Palladium will definitely be packed with action in August and if you are a visitor, there will not be a dull moment for you at this destination of Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2015.
When the models sashay under the spell of the designers at the Palladium this month, we can have an eyeful of Indian fashion and creativity at its best. We are inching towards 26th August and the fashion fraternity is holding its breath and anxiously waiting to catch a glimpse of the sizzle at Lakme Winter Festive 2015.
