The country's most desired and loved beach destination, Goa, officially came alive in the fashion world recently with the Gionee India Beach Fashion Week 2015. The new and exciting event was launched by Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza, alongside Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.
The event began on a high with Anupamaa Dayal’s stunning collection of Indian apparel. She showcased her signature style of boho themes, including flowing ensembles teamed with bright sunny colours and mixed floral prints. Inspired heavily by the Arabian Sea, the colour palette included hues such as sunset yellows, deep oranges, bright blue and reds. The collection also featured tones of rich golds and ivory, making it prefect for a free spirit beach wedding. In terms of silhouettes we saw unique and fun designs such as saris teamed with a bikini, dupattas and flowing kaftans, all with delicate and intricate embroidery, and was a definite highlight at Gionee India Beach Fashion Week 2015.
Komal Sood showcased a stunning and stand out Indian apparel collection, with Greek Goddess inspired garments, focusing on the Queen of the seas, Amphitrite. Her collection featured soft pastel tones and sheer materials, teamed with detailed white and silver embroidery and flowing cape style elements.
Designer Raakesh Agarvwal showcased a unique swim collection inspired by the Ozora Music Festival. The popular designer launched his ready-to-wear denim line, which held a lot nostalgia of the 1970s' unique and quirky flavour.
Raakesh opened the show with distressed, ripped, and washed out denim techniques, and then moved towards embellished vintage denim styles. This Indian apparel was both innovative and wearable and utilised the denim trend that seems like it’s going to be a big hit again this year. We also saw bright colour hues that varied from sunshine yellow and tangerine to ivory and saffron.
Omana by Harsh Agarwal was a sexy and stylish Indian apparel collection containing monokinis and cut out swimsuits, teeny-weeny bikinis, flowing maxi dresses and loose material jackets perfect for the beach. The garments were teamed with geomantic and photographic prints of topical birds and scenery.
A huge highlight from India Beach Fashion Week 2015 had to be Model-turned actress Lisa Haydon parading down the catwalk in a chic bodysuit with an embellished blue and nude top that featured intricate and pretty yellow tone flower embroidery. The bottom of the bodysuit featuring contrasting black and white striped high waisted shorts covered by a flowing net lehenga skirt with gold detail. A weird but wonderful combination!
