The much awaited, much anticipated Lakme India Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 commenced yesterday with a bang. The show will mark the completion of a grand 15 years of this spectacular bi-annual event. To celebrate this milestone, an undeniable fantastic mix of talent is ready to shine light upon the runway; as a beacon of light for the many more years of talent to come at Lakme India Fashion Week.
Indeed, this snippet is just one of the many brilliant shows to follow within this five day gala of creativity and diversity amongst an incredible pool of talent taking place at the Palladium Hotel. The uniqueness of this year’s Lakme India Fashion Week is the fact that there are four offsite shows from some of the top Indian fashion designers. Amongst these designers, Sabyasachi Mukherjee opened this year’s Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort season at an offsite location at Richardson & Cruddas.
A quick visit down memory lane in Sabyasachi’s design career, we discover it was in fact in 2002 that Sabyasachi debuted at Lakme Fashion Week. Since then, he has become a force to be reckoned with. He is a master in the use of Indian textiles and the unique traditional touch that infuses into each of his collections, becoming his trademark. As such, this designer’s journey and growth mirrors Lakme Fashion Week’s journey and success so closely, that Sabyasachi was the obvious choice to open the 2015 Lakme Fashion Week show.
His simple, yet solid philosophy has led him on a fulfilling design journey in that clothes should be an extension of ones intellect and as such, his collections reflect an international styling with an Indian soul. The latest Summer/Resort collection of Sabyasachi's brought back the style of the 70's decade and it indeed struck a different and unique note to his previous collections. The ramp was full of floral prints, splashes of colour, eclectic patterns and glitter bombs. Indeed, the designs were a feast for the eyes, showcasing glimpses of contemporary silhouettes. The recurring theme throughout the night was fluid silhouettes, whether in the sarees or gowns, introducing an era of effortless elegance. The highlight of the show for us was definitely the unique mix and match of prints and the contemporary silhouettes maintaining a touch of tradition. This is what we love you for, Sabyasachi!
In fact, we can just imagine some of these quirky creations to be worn at wedding ceremonies such as a Mehendi, Sangeet or Reception. Imagine the long floral dresses worn at a mehendi ceremony and the glitter dresses being worn at a wedding reception...simply stunning! Similarly, the menswear collections were sauve and sophisticated - definitely different and stylish enough to receive plenty of compliments if worn at a wedding ceremony!
Attending the show were some big names in Bollywood including Deepika Padukone, Kajol, Rani Mukherji and Sridevi, all donned in stunning Sabyasachi attire. Deepika looked stunning in a floral maxi dress with a bold lip colour and matching accessories. Sridevi painted an elegant picture in a Sabyasachi saree, accessorised with diamond earrings. Indeed, it was definitely a starry start to the Lakme Fashion Week. Sabyasachi has definitely raised the bar high at his opening show and we cannot wait to see what other designers have on offer!
