A Midnight Summer's Dream: Manish Malhotra's Summer/Resort wear at Lakme Fashion Week 2015
21 st Mar 2015

Manish Malhotra painted the ramp a brilliant blue on Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week and how!

Titled The Blue Runway fashion show, the event was held in support of the global campaign against gender violence called WEvolve. Manish had a preview of his Lakme Fashion Week collection earlier and spoke about this good cause.

The ramp came alive and transported the audience to a Midnight's Summer Dream, taking place beneath a starry sky and amidst the courtyards of the Great Eastern Home; with bold and glowing hues of indigo blue, yellow and ivory. The recurring colour of the show was of course blue, reinforcing the Blue Runway theme, with pleasant accents of powder pink and gold weaving a spectacular story in the designs. The collections showcased flowing gowns, contemporary sarees, and jackets with gorgeous intricate floral embroidery placed elegantly on the designs. These florals were also seen on the bandghala jackets in the menswear collections, as well as long shirts.

It was a star-studded event, with beautiful actresses such as Deepika Padukone, Sridevi, Kajol and Neha Dhupia supporting the renowned designer in the front row. Manish Malhota's bridal collections indeed have always been a favourite amongst Bollywood divas, either on or off screen. For those summer brides looking to get married soon, Manish's collection serves as great inspiration for a summer beach wedding; think twinkling gold lights, outdoor canopies, floral decor and floating candles! The go to trend for summer weddings are indeed more confident styles in bold colours, yet maintaing an aura of femininity and elegance with the intricate floral embroideries.

According to Manish, his muse is one who is intelligent, is able to carry off Indian attire with plenty of style and at the same time aware of international trends. In other words, a modern woman, who is still in tune with her traditional heritage. With minimal jewelry, the clothes spoke for themselves and made an undeniable impact.

As the show came to a close, models strutted down the catwalk holding signs with words such as 'gender' and 'equality'. The shower of petals added the finishing touch to Manish Malhotra's show at Lakme Fashion Week. All in all, it was a stunning show with a strong message, with many coming out from the show feeling inspired. Our only message to the designer would be to continue doing what he's doing, as it definitely seems to be working!
