Quoting the lovable Charlotte York in the modern day equivalent of a relationship bible – Sex And The City:

“Maybe our girlfriends are our soul mates and guys are just people to have fun with.”

Your besties who’ve been there through all the relationship hysteria, the frantic late night phone calls, the crying fits, the uncontrollable laughing episodes, the times when you just needed to vent, the heart wrenching break ups and everything else before you met you man, are most definitely your soul sisters. After months and months of wedding planning and general nuptial stress, you might be looking forward to kicking back and spending some much-needed alone time with your crew. Because while you know that getting married is never going to change what you have, you also know that sometimes life has a way of taking over and you might find yourselves juggling impossible schedules. In fact you might have considered taking an all girls vacay rather than just doing a one-night bachelorette because you realize you’ve been so busy that you feel the need reconnect over several days.

The plan sounds totally brilliant……in theory! However one meeting to discuss possible destinations will throw up so many complications that you all might be ready to throw in the towel even before booking tickets. But Rome wasn’t built in a day and unless you all have really deep pockets to witness its architectural wonders, it might be time to get down to serious scheduling and costing. While time off work, family life or other obligations might be an issue for some, the biggest concern for others might be finances. Not to mention you yourself might find that those purse strings aren’t going to stretch very far after paying for a zillion wedding expenses.

So what’s a group of girls to do when all they want to do is getaway on a shoestring budget? Obviously money is subjective and what might seem extravagant to one group might seem totally basic to another. So ascertain a fixed sum at the outset and work your way around it. The biggest decision will be finalising a destination based on the activities that everyone finds exciting. So here are some totally viable options to consider if travelling in incredible India is the motto. As with any travel plan take these suggestions and run with them to customise a destination to your own needs. Depending on where you live, a particular location could be easily managed in Rs. 20,000/- because you will spend next to nothing on travel. But something further away can easily cross the Rs. 50,000/- mark when you add flight or train tickets.

All of our suggested locations can work anywhere between Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 75,000/- It might seem impossible but with some careful deal hunting and consolidation, it’s not that pricey to put together a fantastic girls trip that won’t break the bank. We have even divided up the destinations by the closest Indian metropolitan city, so you can get an idea about travel distances from where you’re based. When the money is tight, it’s best to avoid going too far from where you all live. You would rather spend on fun activities than travel costs so be smart and pick destinations close to your hometowns or those that offer the most bang for your buck after adding everything you all want to do.

Sula Wines, Nashik – Closest To Mumbai

The small town of Nashik is only 180kms from Mumbai and easily accessible by car or train. The gorgeous Sula vineyards lie amidst gentle rolling hills and the placid Lake Gangapur. The Tuscan-inspired contemporary villas come complete with massive French windows, a pool and acres of undisturbed wilderness. The in-house restaurant serves up delectable organic fare that’s sure to feed your body and soul. A weekend here with your gal pals is just the ticket to drink away those wedding jitters and single-life blues while also making up for lost time with nothing else to do but reconnect with each other.

Mcleod Ganj – Closest To Delhi

Home to His Holiness – The Dalai Lama and a large population of Tibetian monks, Mcleod Ganj attracts thousands of international visitors each year. It’s as close to an international feel as it gets while also being totally domestic. Don’t be fooled by the do-gooders and hipsters who mainly come to volunteer for the Tibetan community. Mcleod Ganj’s location nestled amongst the Dhauladhar Mountains makes it the ideal starting point for several high-octane trekking expeditions. If sleeping under the stars and waking up to the view of snow-capped peaks isn’t enough to excite you then you’ll be surprised to know that this little town has quiet an exciting cultural vibe as well. Your girls and you can soak up the adrenaline and the spirituality but also enjoy quaint eateries rustling up Indo-Italo-Israeli-Tibetan fare.

Puducherry – Closest To Chennai

Travelling to France may not be an option but that doesn’t mean you girls can’t enjoy the Parisienne vibe. The union territory of Puducherry is more famously known by its old name Pondicherry and endearingly nicknamed Pondy by the locals. The former French colony still retains much of its vintage aura with a large population of residents speaking the language and English laced with the seductive French accent. Lots of Indian artists, designers and Gallic creative types call this city home, giving it an exceptionally artsy ambiance.

The older French quarter is lined with bougainvillea-draped colonial-style townhouses making it the ideal setting for leisurely strolls and Insta-worthy pictures. Auroville lies to the north of the town and can be an interesting day trip for anyone reeling from the shocks of binge watching Wild Wild Country on Netflix or for those looking for a spot of yoga and meditation. For the non-spiritual types there is plenty of shopping, delectable French cuisine and alcohol (au revoir Tamil Nadu’s liquor taxes).

Approximate Cost: Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 45,000/-

Gokarna – Closest To Bangalore

If you’re after pristine beaches bathed in sunlight in the day and warmed by toasty bonfires at night then nothing beats the serenity and calm of Gokarna. The quiet and less commercial cousin of Goa, is also decidedly bipolar as a city. There is one extremely religious side peppered with sacred Hindu temples that comes alive during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Shiv Ratri. And another chilled-out beach holiday side, that’s more low-key with musicians strumming on a guitar rather than full-scale parties.

It’s proximity to Goa is another plus if the gang simply can’t do a big send-off into married life without all-night ragers. Spend a few days here after all the hard partying to reminisce about the good-ol-days and make dreamy plans for the future.

Approximate Cost: Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 35,000/- Only Gokarna

Approximate Cost: Rs. 25,000/- to Rs. 75,000/- For Gokarna & Goa
