When you think of Indian designers whose creations are flamboyant and opulent, the first designer who comes to mind is Rohit Bal. He is widely known for his luxurious Indian bridal dresses, floor sweeping lehengas and lavish use of floral designs in his outfits. His clothes are painstakingly made, with tremendous focus on the intricacy of the design, the final output being nothing short of regal.
His clothes are adorned with detailing and handmade embellishments that give them a unique touch. The veteran designer has been in the industry for over 25 years now, crafting clothes of ultimate grandeur. About the Indian bridal dresses he creates, Bal says that they are all made to order and never the kind that can be bought off the rack. His aesthetic sense translates into beautiful Indian bridal dresses that every bride dreams of.
Using varied fabrics like silk, cotton, linen, mulmul, georgette and velvet and combining them with exquisite crafts like block print, zardosi, gota work, applique work and brocade, he weaves magic with Indian bridal dresses. His clothes are a thing of fantasy, capable of transforming the brides into ethereal angels.
His love for whites is widely known, with the designer often spotted wearing pristine linen clothes that are breezy and comfortable. His love for the colour also translates into his choices while designing Indian bridal dresses. They are impeccably decorated with heavy gold accents that lend the clothes a regal touch. Among our favourite outfits designed by Rohit Bal is this spectacular ivory lehenga set worn by Sonam Kapoor during the Indian Bridal Fashion Week.
The voluminous ivory lehenga was decked with heavy gold embroidery and a solid gold border that added to its grandeur. The sheer craftsmanship that would have gone into the making of the elaborate designs itself makes the lehenga so desirable. What we loved the most about the lehenga was that it was opulent without being too over the top, thanks to the sheer genius of the designer.
Rohit Bal has done innumerable shows in India and also in the major fashion capitals like London, Paris, Milan, New York and Singapore. His collections have also found spaces in major stores across India, Europe and Middle-East. Most notable is that he is one of the few Indian designers to have associations and tie-ups with lifestyle stores like the Conran Store, Crate and Barrel and Anthropologie.
A favourite with Bollywood celebrities, his Indian bridal dresses have been spotted on many an actors and graced innumerable magazine covers.
The most recent spotting of a Rohit Bal outfit was at Arpita Khan’s wedding. Genelia D’Souza looked resplendent in this floor sweeping anarkali by Rohit Bal with bright gold motifs and teamed it with gold jewellery. The vibrant dress gets two thumbs up from us for being classy and elegant while standing out at the same time.
Rohit Bal stole the show last year with his Gulbagh collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. The clothes in the collection, true to their name were adorned with floral motifs and the colours looked spectacular on the ramp.
We’re eagerly looking forward to see what the designer has in store for us this year. We’ll keep you posted and make sure that you have plenty of pictures to feast your eyes upon.
