In India, if Cricket is a religion then surely Bollywood is a cult and when they come together it’s nothing short of fire works every single time. Cricketers getting together with Bollywood actresses is something of an unavoidable magnetic attraction because let’s face it, they’re new age royalty.
So when all-rounder Yuvi decided it was time to bite the bullet and let model-turned-actress Hazel Keech make an honest man out of him, the whole country went berserk with excitement. Why? Because this is India’s homegrown version of a royal wedding! They might not be the equivalent of William and Kate to anyone else but for every Bolly-crazed, cricket-loving fanatic in India they’re nothing less.
The rumour mills had been churning out wild fantasies about possible dates and locations for the wedding and the loved-up couple didn’t drop a single clue until everything went into overdrive when Yuvraj was spotted clutching an invite for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was official. They were finally tying the knot and everyone wanted the deets.
The unveiling of the invitation card was an occasion in itself. It’s always endearing when a couple really cares about creating their own brand of magic at their wedding and these two lovebirds bowled us over (quite literally!) starting with the personalised invitations. They enlisted Sandy and Kapil Khurana’s creative minds to design caricatures of themselves and combining the themes of a wedding and cricket titling the nuptials “Yuvraj & Hazel Premier League”
The cuteness didn’t end there because as is customary with grand Indian wedding invitations this one also included some sweets. Along with The Sweet Boutique, the duo went one step further and got the couple’s initials engraved on the decadent delicacies to be distributed with the invites. And keeping in line with their power couple status all the glitter was made of edible 24k gold.
The grandness of the invitation was a clear indication of the opulence of the wedding festivities kicked off by the mehendi on 29th November in Chandigarh. Hazel donned a sunny yellow flared anarkali with minimal makeup and finished off the look with chandbalis and a mathapatti by Astha Jagwani. While the left-handed batsman looked dapper in a blue and white bandhgala kurta and churidhar paired with a blue cardigan. Yuvi took to social media to announce the start of the wedding celebrations and thank their wedding planners. Needless to say the heart-melting pictures of the adorable couple were a little slice of heaven for fans everywhere.
Immediately following the mehendi was the sangeet ceremony on the same day that evening. The couple chose to go all out monochrome glam for the occasion in regal JJ Valaya ensembles. Bride-to-be Hazel wore an applique embroidered black velvet jacket over a full length white anarkali and accessorised her look with a long tiered neckpiece, polki maangtikka, peacock chandbalis and an oh-so-on-point brown matte pout. Yuvraj went the classic and elegant route with a simple yet immaculately tailored black velvet achkan. It was a star-studded affair with most of Yuvraj’s teammates in attendance.
It was then time for the intimate Sikh wedding ceremony on November 30th. Following traditional customs and rituals the wedding took place at a gurudwara in Duffera. The couple went with the magic of JJ Valaya’s creations once more but this time in rich jewel toned maroons. Hazel stuck to the traditional bridal colours of gold and maroon for her salwaar kameez. She offset the conventional muted gold embroidery and red juda with tousled hair, chandbalis and minimalistic dewy fresh makeup. Yuvraj embodied his inner Sikh in a full turban that complimented his velvet sherwani seamlessly.
The newly weds were whisked off from chilly Chandigarh to sunny Goa for yet another wedding ceremony this time as per Hindu customs. Both Hazel and Yuvraj chose decidedly simpler outfits that worked brilliantly with the easy breezy feel of a beachfront wedding. Hazel looked resplendent in a traditional red Benarasi sari with a zardozi kamarbandh designed by Ashley Rebello. Her stunning statement baubles were from Anmol jewellers. Yuvraj wore a beige kurta churidhar with an embroidered red bandhi and velvet border dupatta. However what Yuvi’s outfit lacked in pizzazz he more than made up for with his seriously cool baraat by making his entrance on an ATV. The gorgeous venue was decorated with white flowers and bathed in the light of the setting sun.
It was time to let loose and party after all those serious ceremonies and they did just that at the grand reception in Goa. Walking hand in hand at their wedding reception both of them ditched their ethnic outfits for western wear. Hazel wore a white embellished gown and Yuvraj a powder blue suit as they shook a leg to hits like Gangnam style and Senorita with Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. But not before they took a page out of every heart meltingly mushy wedding movie scene as they cut a tiered cake and took to the floor for a romantic ballad.

Yuvzel – as their fans and paparazzi affectionately call them were far from done celebrating their wedding. A week after their two wedding and celebrations spanning different cities the party shifted to Delhi and didn’t disappoint. They held a post-wedding sangeet for their close friends and family followed by a grand reception the next day. The couple that’s been hitting it out of the ballpark on the style stakes throughout the marathon wedding were definitely not about to drop the ball at the end of their innings.
Yuvraj looked dapper in a black velvet bandhgala and jodhpuri trousers while Hazel looked like the ideal newly wed Punjabi bride in a traditional green lehenga complete with the red juda and a side braid. And if their Instagram feeds are anything to go by, it was a night of killing it on the dance floor with the big wigs of cricket, fashion and entertainment.
The finale of this mega wedding was a glitzy and glamorous reception held at a five-star hotel in Delhi. Yuvzel stuck with their clear favourite JJ Valaya and chose matching ensembles from his Rana of Katchchh collection. Yuvraj wore an embellished red velvet sherwani that beautifully complemented Hazel’s motif embroidered lehenga. The reception included an aptly illustrious guest list but most interestingly an appearance by Captain Cool M.S. Dhoni with wife Sakhi in tow put rumours of a rift between the two teammates to rest.
