When the scion of the richest family in India takes the first step towards tying the knot, there can be absolutely no doubt that 2018 will indeed be the year for big fat Indian weddings. With fresh rumours about the impending Deepika-Ranveer nuptials doing the rounds and nearly confirmed news about Sonam Kapoor’s walk down the aisle with beau Anand Ahuja, it’s definitely shaping up to be an exciting year for wedding aficionados. Coming back to the young lovebirds, Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta, there is a lot more to their story than the usual boy meets girl saga.
While a lot is known about groom-to-be Akash as the eldest son of Mukesh and Nita Ambani, his fiancé Shloka Mehta has as yet remained an enigma. The daughter of Russell and Mona Mehta is so much more than just a pretty face. Shloka’s father is a diamond doyen who owns Rosy Blue and she is the director of the philanthropic arm of the company called Rosy Blue Foundation as well as the co-founder of NGO ConnectFor. The titles weren’t bestowed upon her for just being her father’s daughter because the lovely lass is also extremely well educated. Shloka has a degree in Anthropology from Princeton University and a master’s degree in Law from London School Of Economics.
Akash and Shloka met at a very young age at the Dhirubhai Ambani International School owned by his family. It was probably this deep childhood bond that blossomed into a romance in the future and also made Shloka an instant fit with the Ambanis. Akash’s twin sister Isha Ambani even made an emotional speech recounting her days when Shloka’s sister Diya became her first best friend and how she doesn’t remember a time in her life when she didn’t know Shloka. She even went as far as to say that the Ambani family was now complete and she was glad to officially become Shloka’s sister.
The ring ceremony was a private affair at a luxury resort in Goa on March 24. Both of them were dressed in elegantly chic ensembles. Akash kept it smart casual in white trousers, a nautical line tee and blue blazer. Shloka chose a tiered lace Needle & Thread London gown in antique blue. The couple exchanged rings followed by a cake cutting ceremony for both families.

On their return back to Mumbai, the family made a trip to the famous Ganesh temple of Siddhivinayak to bestow god’s blessings on the young couple in their onward journey. All of them dressed in their traditional best and graciously posed for the waiting media.

Obviously it just wouldn’t do for such a big occasion in the illustrious family to pass without a massive celebration and that’s exactly what followed back in Mumbai. The Ambani’s hosted the most prestigious of guests from Bollywood, sports and high society at their iconic residence Antilla. Keeping it understated yet again, Akash opted for a blue suit and Shloka wore a brown and pink gown.

It’s no secret that the Ambanis and Bachchans are extremely close so it was no surprise that they were invited to the engagement and Aishwarya was representing the family. Aishwarya looked stunning in a black strapless gown by Osman and finished off her look with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch. However, it was actually little Aaradhya who was Nita Ambani’s special guest for the evening as she expressly requested mom Aishwarya to bring the tot along.

It seems that both Nita Ambani and her mother-in-law Kokilaben Ambani are very fond of the youngest Bachchan girl and love to shower her with sweet treats. Aardhaya who attends the Dhirubhai Ambani International School helmed by Nita Ambani was particularly invited to witness a ballet show by some young ballerinas.

Karan Johar also made an appearance channeling his inner dapper gentleman. He looked sharp in a black suit accessorised with a silver lapel pin and nerdy chic spectacles. He posed with Shahrukh Khan as well as Kiran Rao. Always one to challenge the boundaries of quirky dressing, Kiran Rao went with a metallic skirt from NorBlack NorWhite paired with a simple white kurta and a bright yellow blazer.

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani was in attendance with his wife and son. And representing the society brigade were Adar and Natasha Poonawalla. While Adar stuck with the smart casual theme followed by most of the male guests, donning jeans and a blazer. Natasha looked ravishing in a ruched dress with floral embroidered appliques.
