International Women’s Day will be celebrated by all proud-to-be women worldwide on Saturday 8th March 2014. This day started in 1910 at the second international conference of working women held in Copenhagen and is now an official holiday in many countries. Events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements.
One event that will surely inspire women is the release of Bollywood movie Gulaab Gang which stars beautiful Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla. This movie which portrays women empowerment is set to release on 7th March, a day prior to International Women’s Day.
Madhuri Dixit-Nene plays the gang leader, while Juhi Chawla plays a negative role as a power-hungry politician.
This movie tells the story of a gang leader formulating a gang of women "who come together to be economically self-sustaining. They weave baskets, make masala and weave clothes. They are essentially saree weavers and that’s how they end up coming together," explains director Somik Sen.
The all-women gang members go against the common norm of a male dominated world. “You can say that it is a matriarchal society. I wanted to reverse the trend where men are either hero or villain, or both. It is sort of a Utopian idea in Bollywood where women are the hero as well as the villain”, added Sen. This movie will surprise us all with fighting scenes from the women, even from 46-year-old Madhuri Dixit who will be doing dare-devil fighting scenes.
Throughout this inspirational movie for women, the weaving gang members wear pink sarees. If you would like to embrace women empowerment and follow the fashion of these women, then check out our stunning collection of pink sarees.
