Famously called the minimalist and a perfectionist in Fashion circuits, Wendell Rodricks worked in hospitality industry for six years before taking fashion designing courses in U.S.A and France. His first collection in 1993 illustrated Wendell’s love for neutral shades and fluid light fabrics. Wendell Rodricks is a multidimensional designer and a pioneer fashionist who explored every couture style from bridal to beach wears in his own signature style. Back in 1995 Wendell Rodricks became the first Indian designer to be invited at IGEDO garments fair in Dusseldorf.

His garments foretold his love for his Goan roots and its culture. His attention to the details and creating small effects on the fabric with the fabric itself is trademark of Wendell Rodricks. His beautifully created attires have generous fluidity and pleats, letting the fabric do the talking. The tailoring and expertise in creating intricate details on fabrics outstands Wendell’s creations in the fashion industry. His intrinsic couture features extended silhouettes and subtle use of bright shades in colour and widespread use of his signature white. Wendell Rodricks is an epitome of eco friendly couture brand. All the collections are spanned out on eco friendly fabrics and natural dyes. Bold cuts, diaphanous fabric layering and multicoloured stripes define his tropical collections.

Wendell Rodricks’s creativity is not restricted to the fashion world and at multiple times he has generated fashion for a cause. One such initiative was his collection ‘Visionnaire’ in 2001 which was aimed at visually challenged to read brail on clothes. Wendell Rodricks is a revivalist in an entirely distinct aspect, who dedicated his two years in reviving an age old weaving technique of Kumbi Sarees in Goa. His endorsement to Khadi in Goa not only promoted the craft, but also made Khadi fashionable.

Multitalented Rodricks is also a celebrated fashion writer who contributes to the ace fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper Bazaar, Femina and Elle. He authored his memoirs ‘The Green Room’ in 2012 which served as an insight of the fashion world and its functionality.

Wendell Rodricks versatility in couture designing is beyond the ramp and he is the first ever designer in India to design police uniforms for Goa government. His work extends its boundaries in academicals accrediting him for mentoring budding designers like Masaba Gupta. Rodricks plans to open The Goa Costume Institute to contribute more to an industry he has been a part for more than two decades. For his contribution to Indian fashion industry and extensive efforts in reviving traditional weaving and dying crafts, the Government of India bestowed him with the fourth highest civilian honour Padma Shri in 2014.
