When Nikhil Thampi showcased his collection ‘This is how I feel’ in Lakme Fashion week 2011, he made a statement loud and clear that a formal training is not a compulsion to make it big in fashion industry. He is one of the new generation Fashion designers who believe in comfortable wearable fashion and grandeur designs. A degree in psychology and his family business was not enough for Nikhil Thampi, to hold his creativity and evidently a little push and encouragement from family and friends set him to his destined path.  Appreciation and critical acclaim after the Lakme Fashion Week 2011 propelled him to launch his label ‘Nikhil Thampi’. His designs are frequently featured on the cover page of top fashion magazines like Harper Bazar, Elle, Femina and Vogue. His illustrious clientele includes Kalki Kocheilin, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Kajol, Vidya Balan, Neha Dhupia and Nargis Fakhri.

Nikhil Thampi’s designs are marked by their neat and figure flattering silhouettes with cut outs at the waist. His designs portray a vivacious, free spirit and intrepid Indian women of today. Moving on from eclectically used hues like maroon, red and electric blue, Nikhil centres his clothes in black, white and coral monotones, with a tinge of gold here and there. He loves to add straps and belts in his ensembles to create a pseudo armour look. Nikhil Thampi’s signature styles includes embracing silted gowns with plunging necklines and gold accessories, and sheer jackets with golden embellishments styled with palazzo pants in black , white and hues of beige . 

Nikhil Thampi has a distinct creativity approach towards Indian ethnic wears like sarees. He designs sarees in silk with sheer net halves and suit blouses, anarkalis with selective net layering, golden motifs and attached drapes to incur a modernised look.

Nikhil Thampi’s cocktail collections feature spectacular and red carpet worthy designs, which are predominated by the colour black and sports eccentric motifs like golden Kathakali faces on backless cut out gowns. Many tinsel town top actresses like Jacqueline Fernandez and Vani Kapoor hace worn his cocktail designs on the red carpets. Nikhil Thampi’s collection ‘Untamed’ once again tributes the confident audacious women, with its long flowing bodice and straight pants in soft coral hues, three dimensional broach like golden floral motifs and vibrant pencil skirts with vertically running side chains.

Fashion fedora of Nikhil Thampi is beyond prêt and cocktail couture and he is all set to unveil his bridal collection musing Sushmita Sen. A welcomed change from heavy zardosi and embroidery hyped bridal wears, Thampi’s collection will redefine wedding dresses. Nikhil Thamp’s bridal wears will use white tone, with elaborated golden embellishments, making a Greek goddess impact. Bringing a bridal line in white is a unique and perhaps bold step for Thampi, as the colour of peace and mourning has never been used in bridal wears before. Creating wonders with basic black and white Nikhil Thampi is all set to take the centre stage of Indian fashion industry.
