Renowned Indian fashion designer Manish Arora was born and raised in Mumbai. Part way through a degree in Commerce, Arora decided that his true passion lay elsewhere and transferred to the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Dehli. During his time there he was a stand-out student and received much raise, winning the Best Student Award before graduating in 1994.

Manish Arora went on to launch his own label “Manish Arora” in 1997 and began retailing in Indian. In 2000 Manish Arora showcased his latest collection in the debut Indian Fashion Week.

Arora launched a second label ”Fish Fry” which specialised in sportswear in 2001 in partnerships with sports apparel brand Reebok. The following year, Arora opened two stores in New Delhi. However it was in 2003 after another successful showcase at India Fashion Week that Manish Arora started becoming a successful designer internationally as well as in India. He signed a stocking deal with the Paris-based French fashion house Maria Luisa, and in 2005 participated in the Miami Fashion Week where he won the Designer’s Choice for Best Collection Award.

A fashion jury in a leading Indian publication Outlook designated him “Best Indian Fashion Designer” and featured him on the cover of its March 2006 issue.

His successful 2005 debut at London Fashion Week received a rapturous response from both buyers and press. Following this he was asked by the British Council of India to gift some of his pieces for the Victoria & Albert Museum’s “Gobal Local” exhibition. In 2007 and 2015 Manish Arora’s work was shown yet again at the Victoria & Albert Museum in the ‘Fashion in Motion’ and “The Fabric of India” exhibitions respectively.

By 2009 in additions to four incredibly successful retail stores in India Manish Arora was selling his collections in more than 80 retailers worldwide.

Manish Arora is widely regarded as “the John Galliano of India” and is often associated with the use of a very rich colour palette and kitsch motifs. His style is favoured by a number of international celebrities who love his bold, striking designs, such as supermodel Heidi Klum and singers Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, not to mention a whole host of Bollywood stars.

In 2011 Manish Arora did a brief stint as creative director of the womenswear collection of the French fashion house Paco Rabanne but left in 2012 he to partner with retail brand BIBA to launch Indian by Manish Arora which focuses on the intricate craftsmanship and design of Indian clothing. In 2014 the brand opened its flagship store in Paris.

Arora is known for his trademark pink and gold palette and Indian heritage inspired designs which have a strong contemporary vibe.
