Jyotsna Tiwari is an Indian designer who is known for her modern bridal designs, each with an underlying traditional influence as well. Jyotsna has showcased her spellbinding creations in most major fashion events, most importantly the bridal fashion weeks since she specializes in bridal outfits.
Jyotsna is a management graduate who ended up becoming a self-taught designer since her unwavering passion and interest lied in design. To answer her inner calling, she set up her eponymous label JONA in 2009 and started designing bridal outfits. Today, she has her own bridal couture outlets in Delhi and Mumbai that cater to the modern Indian bride with a taste for all things elegant and contemporary.
In all her bridal ensembles, Jyotsna Tiwari ensures that she incorporates a craft that reflects India’s traditional heritage. So you would not be surprised to find her using aari and zari embroidery extensively in her uniquely contemporary outfits. She loves working with contemporary colours like pastels, fuchsia and yellows that are subtle and elegant.
Her breakthrough came when she got an opportunity to showcase her bridal couture collection for the first time at the Aambey Valley Bridal Week in 2011. The line had a pretty-pink theme with lehengas, sarees and fusion gowns in gorgeous shades of pink adorned with the most exquisite hand-embroidery. Her artfully designed lehengas exuded a life of their own what with their fluidic design and voluminous silhouette. Kangana Ranaut was the showstopper at the event and she sauntered down the ramp in a pink lehenga-choli with silver emrboidery which received extensive press coverage and did a world of good for brand JONA.
Jyotsna backed this appearance with another mind-blowing collection the following year called the "mystical romance". She added a touch of mystery and romance to classic Indian look, highlighting the moods with flowy silhouettes, grecian drapes, and the influence of varied colors and emotions which surround the bride. As always, she kept her focus on merging the classic evergreens of old India with modern outlook, aimed not only at Indian wedding but for all who want to experiment with Indian clothes on every special occasion.
Her most recent collection, launched in 2014 reached out to all fashionistas who were looking for Indian fusion wedding outfits for more casual gatherings like pre and post-wedding events. The highlights of her collection were pre-draped sarees that accentuated the curves and channeled a contemporary look with a traditional twist to it. About her designs, Jyotsna Tiwari said that “It is not only about bridal dressing but tasteful dressing for the demanding modern women of today.” True to her words, her latest collection includes gowns, lehengas and saree gowns all of which score very high on comfort, easy wear-ability and convenience while also maintaining a charm of their own. Subtle colours, flowy fabrics and intricate embroidery are the hallmarks of the collection.
Given her modern outlook, she is vocal about the power of online marketing on digital platforms where the modern woman of today shops for just about anything – be it daily wear clothes or her bridal ensemble.
