Harshita Deshpande graduated from the Goldsmiths University of London, studying media communications and film. Before becoming a designer, she worked as a TV journalist for a broadcasting house in Mumbai and was also involved in film direction and script writing.
As a designer, she has been described as an ‘all rounder’ and focuses on the revival of the use of handlooms and woven art. She enjoys travelling around India, using her experiences as an inspiration as well as searching for traditional weavers and craftsmen. Her designer label ‘Harshita Chatterjee Deshpande’ is a brand of classical Indian garments, with her most recent collection drawing inspirations from the Temples of south India.
She has also received large appreciation for her collection when she participated in some of the largest fashion events in India including Lakme Fashion Week. Her collections have also been worn by some famous names in Bollywood including the likes of Sonali Bendre and Isha Koppikar who have also walked the runway for Harshita.
