Manipur born designer Asa Kazingmei has always said that from a young age he had a ‘passion for fashion’ that he developed as a result of his father who was a tailor as well as having created some outfits for friends and family whilst growing up. In 2008 he decided to move to Mumbai to chase his dream of becoming a successful fashion designer. Once Asa Kazingmei arrived in Mumbai he worked with multiple designers before launching his own label in 2012 named ‘Asa Kazingmei Haute Couture’.
Fashion Designer Asa Kazingmei’s label is a fusion label that entwines ethnic Naga styles and modern trends to create a contemporary label that has become increasingly popular in the fashion industry across many countries.
In 2014, Asa Kazingmei earned the opportunity to showcase his collection ‘Changvei’ on a national fashion platform with a fan base that stretches all across India, Lakme Fashion Week. The word ‘Changvei’ can be translated in English to mean protector or defender and is said to have gained influence from the zest of past Naga Warriors.
