Abhishek Gupta started his fashion career as a National Institute of Fashion Technology graduate in fashion design. He quickly took steps to get involved in the Indian fashion industry by starting a job with designer Rohit Bal, before he eventually started his own.
Abhishek Gupta’s eponymous brand offers clothes for both men and women paying close attention to the silhouette and structure of his designs. His collections make use of simple designs and elegant silhouettes. Abishek Gupta enjoys creating different textures on fabrics using an amalgamation of both modern and traditional methods.
In the past, Abishek Gupta has been recognised for his work using print methods and quilting. Over the years this has grown to become his label's trademark, describing it as “fine appliqué and cutwork”. Abishek Gupta’s lines have won multiple awards including Kingfisher Fashion Awards’ “Breakthrough Designer 2004” and MTV Style Awards 2007 “Breakthrough Designer”.
In addition to the label, the designer also works alongside Nandita Basu to design a collection of contemporary western styles for men and women called “Fightercock”. Fightercock is an exciting line that aims to portray the differing and sometimes chaotic contemporary fashion scene in India. With Indian styles as foundation he adds western ideas he questions the relevance of traditional dress codes.
The flagship store for his label Abishek Gupta and Fightercock is based in New Delhi and his collections retail across a number of states in India.
