He is a popular name amongst Bollywood folk who are often spotted wearing his creations, and now designer Tarun Tahiliani has teamed up with a watch brand to come up with a collection for the Indian market.
On his new collaboration, he says, “I always want to do something new and exciting, so when I was approached to design watches I decided to do something that is very Indian in aesthetics. These watches are like a piece of jewellery, which will add spice to the ensemble. As to go along with any ethnic outfit women don’t have a complementing watch, so my idea was to solve this problem by offering them this time piece.”
When asked if a celebrity showstoppers a must in today’s times, he says, “It depends on show to show, but one doesn’t need a showstopper for every collection or fashion show, it’s for special times I feel. But these days, people are using showstoppers to conceal the bad clothes. Pure talent can do without any celebrity walking for them as their clothes themselves are stars.”
With many designers getting into filmmaking, does Tahilinai also want to try his luck? “No, 22 years in the business and I feel I’m still learning. Frankly I feel it’s a marketing gig. Like, had it not been for Tom Ford no one would have noticed his film.”
