India International Jewellery Week 2013 is well underway, but according to designer Sumit Sawhney, it is one of the rare opportunities jewellers get to showcase their creations.
Compared to couture shows, of which there are more than fifteen per year in India, jewellery - which is just as important to Indians as clothes - enjoys relatively few exhibitions.
'Jewellery designers never got the kind of exposure that fashion designers did in the country. With these jewellery shows, the designers are finally getting the kind of visibility a fashion designer used to get,' said Sawhney.
His brand, Apala by Sumit Sawhney, was worn by Bollywood actress Mughda Godse, who sauntered down the ramp in the designer's bold collection.
