Lately there has been huge growth in men’s fashion as the amount of choice and the amount of designers focusing on menswear has increased.
Traditional men’s fashion in India has always been covered in intricate embroidery and as a result has been fairly ostentatious. Until now, that is.
Nikhil Mehra of Shantanu & Nikhil suggests that "Menswear fashion industry has evolved over the years. Now finally, there are huge opportunities because men are stepping out of their comfort zone and looking for things which can enhance their personal style, especially in the occasion wear and ceremonial segment."
Traditional clothes tend to err on the expensive side, which explains why there is now greater demand for more functional clothes, which can be worn on numerous occasions, rather than to just one wedding a year.
Nikhil predicts that subtlety will be at the forefront of men’s fashion as men continue to move away from attire with masses of embroidery. First however, he believes that brands need to offer more varied and relatable colour codes, with more functional ensembles that would comfortable to wear on an evening out, and not just a lavish do.
