Sanchita Ajjampur is perhaps the only fashion designer from Bangalore who is always ahead of time. Her creations are edgy, futuristic and it does take the uninitiated some time to understand her thought process. Here, the designer creates three looks from her Spring Summer 2012 collection for fashionistas… Red evening gown This sensual evening gown in cayenne pepper red has antique gold rococo details and slightly off-the-shoulder asymmetrical sleeves to give a modern spin to an elegant classic. The gold foil-coated leather clutch and statement wedges complement the gold rococo borders of the dress and enhance the sleekness of the silhouette. Modal jersey and a figure-flattering cut give molten fluidity to feminine curves for a retro touch reminiscent of silver screen divas. The subtle heritage richness of the gold rococo-embroidered borders counterpoints the simple lines of the gown. The asymmetrical sleeves add whimsical personality, revealing the provocative side of high-gloss respectability. The asymmetrical theme is a fils rouge of the whole collection, which plays with shifting and overlapping geometries to balance heritage and modernity. The bug-embroidered motifs of the sandals add a playful, oneiric element. The ensemble pays homage to the bold spirit of the modern woman, who is not afraid of infusing her persona with a frisson of fiery glamour. White top and grey pants This outfit is the epitome of easy elegance, a bare canvas that can be left strikingly minimalist or glammed up with exotic accents. Just unleash your creativity and experiment with its unparalleled virtuosity. Here, the ice-coloured sheen of the draped jersey top offsets the opaque finish of the semi-structured pants in peppercorn grey molleton, leaving the accessories to express the individualistic vibe of a free spirit. Molleton, used for the pants and pencil skirts, is a compact 100% cotton material abraded on both sides to give it a uniformly soft, fleecy surface. Producing molleton is a complex process and requires know how. The bejewelled hand warmer is in 100 gsm fine cotton jersey. The mughal-embroidered cuffs and bracelets are made with metal thread-covered boules, rococo vintage bordered, embroidered with metal spirals and gold crystals. The ballet shoes are made of soft nude, grey and ecru interwoven leather. The handcrafted peppercorn grey leather sling bag with tassels and bejewelled fur owl embroidery provides kinetic details to create interest and send a message of ancestral and assertive femininity. Here are some ideas; Strike an attitude by teaming with a cropped leather jacket and big tote or a tailored tuxedo and oversize clutch. Add a shearling gilet for some fuzzy logic. Go urban smart with a trench coat. More simply, just add a mughal embroidered or applique; fringe necklace for colour and effect. Short blue print dress with long sleeves I love this vintage bloom printed silk satin dress for its intrinsic femininity and 60s flavour. The luxurious feel of the fabric against the skin and the cool, almost metallic sheen of the ocean hues of the print caress the body in a mesmerising pool of blue nostalgia. The look is coordinated into a unified colour palette with the shiny, sequinned, printed silk-satin ballet flats and the blue hand-tatted leather cross-body fringe bag, decorated with a bejewelled monkey applique of rabbit fur, metal spiral and gold crystals to add the oneiric element that characterises my designs. This versatile and effortless go-to will take you from cocktails to dinner to the disco. Or, to transit to a funky urban daytime look, belt it up and wear with leggings and a jacket or oversized cardigan. The fragile beauty of the vintage print and the lustrous gleam of the silk satin, also available in the edgier lava, pewter and red version, inspired me to delve into its potential for aesthetic alchemies, such as pairing softly draped silk satin tops with hip-hugging pencil skirts to create a mood of timeless glamour or using crystals and bejewelled appliques to infuse the sheath, day and evening dresses with infinite sparkling nuances.
