Indian Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee Sir Paul Smith
Sabyasachi - The Lord of Colours
25 th Apr 2012
Sir Paul Smith, who's famous as much for his classic designs as for his trademark use of colour, was in the city for all of 24 hours on April 23, and UK High Commissioner James Bevan hosted a cocktail reception in his honour at very short notice, but that was enough to get the fashion world's power people to show up to welcome the design legend. Earlier in the day, Sir Paul not only dropped by at his store at DLF Emporio, but also visited the nooks and crannies of the nouveau art, fashion and food hub - Hauz Khas Village. And in the evening, with the city's swish set in the audience, he engaged in a lively conversation with celebrated Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Sabyasachi got Sir Paul sharing his early days, starting with an "accidental foray into fashion", and his historic journey so far. The conversation was dotted with the famous British humour and dry wit. After the chat, guests got a chance to interact personally with the icon over champagne and canapes. "India always inspires and excites me," Sir Paul said. "My India business is growing well and I look forward to my Mumbai shop opening in June." He also complimented the "wonderful" designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee and said it was "great" to be interviewed by him. Sir Paul is using his icon status to help promote the UK as a destination via its GREAT campaign. He has designed stamps for the Olympics for the Isle of Man post office and is a very big supporter of Britain's Olympic cycling team. And on April 23 evening, Sir Paul also showed his musical side - he selected the music for the garden party, and the guests just loved it. ________________________________________Shop Indian Designer Womenswear at Strand of Silk
