Sparkling lehengas, embellished saris and flowery anarkalis - the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival has seen it all.

For Bollywood star regular Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, it all began in 2003 with brightly coloured and heavily textured Indian outfits with traditional make-up to match. She then followed this with a influx of traditional saris: starting with a sheer material Sabyasachi saree in 2010, followed by a shimmering gold Tarun Tahiliani saree in 2013.

Sonam Kapoor although less experienced at the event, has always been a lot more experimental with her choice of Indian outfits: her loyalty for Anamika Khanna’s sarees has always worked extremely well for her.

2013 was the year that Vidya Balan finally met with her avid French fans on the renowned red carpet. For Balan, it was Sabyasachi central, with a beautiful collection of royal and elegant outfits including stylish saris with sleeved blouses.

As for the Bollywood diva’s that have made occasional appearances, the one lady who stood out from the crowd was no other than Deepika Padukone in 2010, in which she showcased a stunning ivory and gold Rohit Bal saree.

Ameesha Patel wearing Manish Malhotra, as well as Nandita Das were also seen showcasing tradtional Indian wear.
