In an effort to bring Khadi back into fashion the Fashion Design Council of India, in association with the Gujarat State Khadi & Village Industries Board, presented their ‘Huts to High Street’ initiative.
Some of India’s leading fashion stylists including Aneeth Arora, Rohit Bal and Rajesh Pratop Singh presented collections which put a modern twist on traditional Indian crafts and heritage.
These woven and hand-spun ensembles were paraded down the runway by Bollywood royalty Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor.
Salman Khan endorsed Khadi by saying he prefers minimalistic clothing that is comfortable.
He appealed to people within the entertainment industry to wear it more often to promote it and added that they should be proud that it is an Indian product.
The Khadi celebration event was attended by members of the entertainment industry, as well as those working in the textile, design and business industries.
