Indian Fashion Competes with Western Fashion 26 th Mar 2014
The Indian fashion industry is struggling to make an impact in the fashion world which is constantly being dominated by American and western influences which are over-shadowing the intriguing, rich culture of Indian fashion.
However Ritu Kumar disagrees with this opinion stating that traditional Indian styles are still popular and it is always highly competitive for all Fashion designers. Ritu Kumar said, “There is a lot of influence of other cultures because we have the internet and other such sources which help us to connect to the rest of the world. There are a lot of people wearing western clothes in India as well. But at the same time, there is a very strong demand in our country for our own Indian fashion.”
The designer explains that with little adjustments ethnic clothing has become more popular, “Actually the advent of the Kurti has brought a drastic fashion change. This is something, which is really popular with the young generation. It’s very trendy and in fashion.”
