Designer Rina Dhaka is well established in the Indian fashion industry but even after all these years, she still gets overwhelmed by the appreciation that comes her way. Dhaka recently got invited to show her collection at the Masquerade Ball organised by Divya Gurwara of Bridal Asia for the Women’s India Association. The Ball rolled out at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on May 13 and the evening saw the designer showcase a glamorous line of contemporary Indian clothing. With their net tulle, cotton laces and a colour palette of ivory and gold, her western silhouettes and saris were very well-received by the guests present, including the likes of Gopichand and Srichand Hinduja, filmmaker Gurinder Chadha and Lord Swaraj Paul. “I was humbled by the compliments, the clothes were loved by everyone,” says Dhaka. Showing alongside her was designer Gaurav Gupta, who showed his latest couture line. Also heavy on tulle, chiffon and lace,
this collection of gowns — with a selection of saris — was quite opulent.
