Veteran designer Niki Mahajan has been out of the couture market for over eight years, but is making a comeback soon with a collection dedicated to 'selfless women'. Working with almost 100 artists, designers and craftspeople, Mahajan is creating a bespoke collection focused on using styles from the city of Lucknow.
Mahajan is known for making her designs as authentic as possible, utilising materials and techniques from localities as varied as Rajasthan, Karnataka, Gujarat and Bengal.
"I always try to give employment to my craftspeople with my clothes and this is what I am doing this time as well," Mahajan told media. "I have been working a lot with block printing; that's something I reinvented. I am using a lot of old fabrics that I've used in my previous shows. But this show comes with a lot of embroidery and no print at all, something that I have never done before," she added.
