Earth Foundation, a non-government organisation working for economic well-being of the under-privileged girl child, in collaboration with the German Embassy is hosting a fund-raiser for the noble cause at the embassy's Shantipath premises here on March 3, 2012. At the fashion event and charity ball titled ‘Rays of hope for the girl child', diplomats in designer wear by a who's who of the Indian fashion industry will walk the ramp to focus attention on the plight of the girl child and make her independent and self-reliant. Heads of mission from several countries and their spouses will walk the ramp dressed in ensembles contributed by Niki Mahajan,Ritu Kumar, Rina Dhaka, Satya Paul, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ashish Soni, Rohit Gandhi, Anjana Bhargava, Anju Modi, Poonam Bhagat and Nida Mahmood Global community Diplomats who have volunteered to walk the ramp include those from Russia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka. The event will see the launch of the Earth Foundation campaign for One Million Self-Reliant Under-Privileged Girls coinciding with two decades of its diverse initiatives to improve their quality of life. Earth Foundation's campaign initiative chairperson Geeti Bhagat says: “It is heartening that diplomats have put their heart and soul into making this event a grand success. Twenty-five heads of mission along with their families have volunteered to walk on the ramp. Funds raised from the event will be directed towards Earth Foundation's projects focusing on education and health of girls and pre and post natal care of mothers.” Over the years, Ms. Bhagat said, designers in their large-heartedness and social philanthropy have been donating clothes to her NGO that raises funds for under-privileged girls. “Earth Foundation is helping the under-privileged girl child gain confidence.
