Lakme Fashion Week 2013 kicked off in Mumbai with Manish Malhotra's electric curtain-raiser. His models were adorned with traditional Indian outfits which included sarees, skirts, cholis amongst other garments. The designer displayed a preference for pastel pinks and greens as well as variations of cream. Mirror works were also used to a large extent.
Malhotra substituted ghaghras with sahara pants and fitted tops, a combination which proved elegant and effective. The garments displayed embroidery work down towards the hemline. His sarees and chois showed a lots of embellishment and details which added grace and style to the overall composition.
With a blend of silk, nets and georgettes, Malhotra played with different collars and cuts that gave the clothes an interesting look. Unlike other shows, this time two models were simultaneously walking in a ramp with similar colour schemes.
Lakme Fashion Week will run until August 27.
