Sunil Sethi, the president of the Fashion Design Council of India and several Indian fashion designers, met the French ambassador Francois Richier at the embassy as a showing of solidarity with Paris.
The Indian fashion designers who gathered at the embassy to pay their respects included JJ Valaya, Rohit Gandhi, Gaurav Gupta, Anupama Dayal, Hemant-Nadita and a representative for Manish Arora.
A ceremony took place in which candles were lit in the colours of the French national flag and three blue, white and red sarees with intricate work created by fashion designer Suneet Varma was hung at the embassy.
Sunil Sethi told reporters at the embassy that "What has happened in Paris is not easy to forget. The fashion and design fraternity of Paris and India share a great bonding as many designers here have participated in fashion weeks and trade events in Paris. We are with them even at this tough time and would like to say 'Long Live Paris’."
Francois Richier made a speech in which he thanked Sunil Sethi and the gathered fashion designers for their ongoing support. He said that France has a “huge connection with the fashion industry here” and “We just hope that peace prevails in Paris and also in the world because it’s an attack on democracy." he said.
