Last Friday 'The Saree Festival 2014' started. This three day festival at Alliance Francaise was to celebrate the evolution of the saree. The exhibition included talks, music, seminars and dance performances.
Managed by Red Earth, the event showed a Saree Mela with hand-woven, traditional sarees and contemporary ones. The founder of Red Earth, Himanshu Verma, announced “India has a rich heritage of fabrics, designs, weaves and drapes of the saree. The Kanchivaram , the Mysore silk, the Banarasi, and the Phulkari, among others have lent their own distinct flavour to the six yard drape. But we do not have a single festival that celebrates this attire.”
