Priyanka Chopra discusses why she is so glad to be in Bollywood at a time when women are being given bigger roles rather then just being used as an attractive accomplice to the male role. The industry has been blamed in the past for being male dominated but has recently started to create stronger roles for women. Priyanka Chopra states, “I think it is a really good time for female actors in Bollywood…I am very fortunate that roles are being written for me where I can do much more than just being a pretty face.”
Priyanka is set to begin shooting for her next film, which is a biography of the Olympian, Mary Kom. She has mentioned that it is probably one of her toughest roles, “I have to train with every schedule. The next schedule will begin in about 10 days. It is definitely something that has taken a big toll on me. It is a film I hope I can pull off. I hope it changes a lot of things.”
Priyanka was in two Bollywood films last year, Krrish 3 and the Zanjeer remake. Her first release this year will be Gunday, which is hitting the screens on 14th February. In the Yash Raj film, Priyanka played the role of a cabaret dancer called Nandita in the 1970s of Kolkata. She plays this role alongside actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
The actress said that she was compelled to immerse herself in a lot of work last year after the tragic death of her father. She stated about his loss, “I don’t think you can ever get over it. But it (work) was a way of dealing with it. I don’t know how else to deal with it because it just shook me tremendously. The best way for me to have dealt with it was to go to work.”
