The Winter/Festive 2014 edition of the Lakme Fashion Week starts at Mumbai's Palladium Hotel on August 20th. This year, there are 86 participating designers in the grand event.

Opening the event are two younger designers, Masaba Gupta and Amit Aggarwal. Masaba Gupta says, "It's very special for me to return to the platform that I started off from. Of course, there's quite a bit of pressure that comes with it, but that's what makes it all the more exciting." The designer adds, "My collection is titled 'Wanderess', and it takes flight from the eponymous titled book by novelist Roman Payne. My muse is the Goan woman who is free-thinking and adventurous, yet delicately feminine. She dresses and carries herself with a different and confident flair."

Amit Aggarwal on the other hand is known for his structured designs that are a hot favourite of many a Bollywood diva's. The designer says, "Masaba gets the current pulse beautifully and depicts popular art that blends greatly with high fashion. Yes, our styles are starkly different, yet we both try and achieve the same goal - that of making beautiful things."

"I started with a lot of tribal influences on my mood board, such as the weaving techniques, striped tattoos and almost three dimensional jewellery, and interpreted them in a contemporary way with lots of texture. Saturated and deep tones and an overall accent of black are the key colours of the show," he adds.

The closing show will be by none other than Manish Malhotra, who presents his collection with Kareena Kapoor as the show-stopper. The designer is a long-time friend of the star and she has donned his outfits on many important events. The designer says, "She is the perfect combination of a gorgeous face and a confident personality. Every season, LFW has a trend story and the finale accentuates that trend... I am looking forward to crafting a special look for Kareena with my collection which is inspired by a trend that is being spotted on runways around the globe."

Speaking at the launch, Purnima Lamba - Head of Innovation at Lakmé said, “ Lakme always takes centrestage in every bride’s trousseau and this year we bring her something altogether special in the Lakme Absolute Bridal Dream Team.  A chance for every bride to be styled by Lakme in collaboration with Manish Malhotra – Lakme grand finale designer and Cory Wallia – Lakme’s makeup maestro. This is every Indian woman’s chance to make her bridal dream come true.”
