Many top fashion brands are selling to customers in India through Indian fashion portals rather than through their own shops.
The reason for this is that brands are not required to secure a licence because there are no regulations around selling through third party portals.
This setup is highly advantageous to brands which are able to secure a foothold on the Indian fashion market without having to fork out for real estate, which is currently extremely expensive.
One brand that is benefiting massively from this is Amazon. The retail giant has signed exclusive deals with Bjorn Borg, Rockland, Replay and Drunknmunky, which gives them exclusive rights to sell their products in India.
The men’s western apparel market has grown by 450% in India in the last year, whereas women’s has grown by 800%.
India has one of the fastest growing economies in the world at the moment and the ease in which brands can sell through portals in India allows them to reap high rewards for little cost.
