After the phenomenal success of Summer/Resort 2011, the advisory board members of Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW), country’s leading fashion and trade event, shortlisted the Gen Next and Emerging designers for the upcoming LFW Winter/Festive 2011. Highlights of the meeting and new initiatives: Berlin Calling… Lakmé Fashion Week’s vision is to Integrate India into the global fashion world. This season set up an exceptional challenge for the advisory board members to shortlist designers to represent India at Berlin Fashion Week in January 2012. The platform will not only support the selected designer in presenting the runway show but will ensure that the opportunity is leveraged effectively in representing India internationally. ‘The Source’ revamped ‘The Source’, the business hub at LFW, will undergo a revamp to accommodate double the number of stalls from the previous season and facilitate an increase in Stall Only designers. ‘The Source’ at LFW will be a center of activity incorporating aspects of music, art and other new initiatives throughout fashion week. To keep up with the tradition of promoting Indian fashion, creativity and commerce to the domestic and international markets, the advisory board has taken up the task of mentoring new talent. This season witnessed an enormous response in the number of applicants across the Gen Next and Emerging designer categories a testimony to the value, relevance and the reputation of the platform. Winter/ Festive 2011 will see an array of new 8 Gen Next and 10 Emerging designers showcasing at the upcoming season. The Lakmé Fashion Week advisory board comprises of eminent stakeholders from the fashion fraternity, including designers, buyers and the media. This season, the responsibility of selecting the future talent rested on the shoulders of fashion media experts Nonita Kalra, Editor In Chief ,ELLE and Priya Tanna, Editor in Chief, Vogue; leading designers Anamika Khanna, Manish Malhotra and Rohit Bal; industry representatives Dr. Darlie O' Koshy, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), buyers Pradeep Hirani, Kimaya, Sangita Kathiwada, Melange; and joint organizers Anil Chopra, CEO- Lakmé Lever; Anjana Sharma, Director Fashion – IMGR and Farida Kaliyadan - General Manager – Lakmé; who are all part of the LFW advisory board. Anil Chopra, CEO-Lakmé Lever said, “As joint organizers of the country’s leading fashion and trade platform that promotes designers, we work with the LFW advisory board to provide the right opportunities and raise the bar of excellence. In the last few seasons, the platform has witnessed a consistent growth and presented a great mix of designers. This season, we are excited to introduce the new batch of young talent alongside the stalwarts of fashion industry, and support a designer in representing India at the Berlin Fashion Week in January 2012.
