In her new collection, that city based designer Nivedita Saboo presented on June 22 at the Paasha Lounge,ICC Marriott, a fresh perspective on fashion was visible. Titled 'Metamorphosis' , the collection was featured in two sets. One set flaunted flamboyant structured silhouettes with a smooth blend of seductive blacks, enchanting golds, bold red roses and glittering diamanté crystals. “The set was inspired by swish cocktail evenings. Specially developed digital prints have been used that brings a sexy and attention-drawing look. The chains and the single glove gives a very Aundrey Hepburn classic touch,” says Saboo. The second showed ethereal elegance as the models displayed gorgeous evening wear with an Indian flavour and strutted on the ramp to 'Chamak Challo' by Akon. “The theme is of a cocoon turning into a butterfly. A lot of layering can be seen with flowy fabrics. The transparency of the ensembles represents diffusion. I used shades of grey generally not used in Indian wear, with blue, that is a colour of royalty and burgundy that gives a western touch and colours of wine, which again are traditionally Indian,” describes Saboo. Subtle seduction was a strong undercurrent of the collection with floor length anaarkalis, multiple textured jackets, embroidered bandhgalas and sherwanis. Actresses Kim Sharma and Hrishitaa Bhatt came as surprise show-stoppers. “ The outfits are absolutely fantastic. When I saw the piece I was going to wear for the show, I went 'wow!' Nivedita is very talented and it was a pleasure for me to be a part of her show,” beams Kim Sharma. Hrishitaa Bhatt was draped in a burgundy saree beautifully studded with dazzling crystals. “The clothes Nivedita designs reflects her personality as well as the people who inspire her. The outfits are gorgeous and also very wearable,” says Hrishitaa. Actor Jackie Shroff was also present.
