A lot can happen when leading designers from Kolkata (Anamika Khanna), Delhi (Rohit Bal) and Mumbai (Manish Malhotra) and the powers that be meet behind closed doors to chalk out details for Mumbai Fashion Week. At a recent advisory board meeting, it was revealed that big designer names, which were missing the last season, will make a comeback this year.
The prodigals: Neeta Lulla, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Wendell Rodricks and JJ Valaya will all return to showcase their collections at the upcoming fashion week, to be held from August 17 to 22 in the city. The Berlin touch: One Emerging Designer will be chosen on design merit to participate at the Berlin Fashion Week in January 2012. This initiative is being taken to integrate India into the global fashion world.
The platform will not only support the selected designer in presenting the runway show but will ensure that the opportunity is leveraged effectively in representing India globally. Gennext from abroad: Unlike Delhi Fashion Week, which allows only Indian domicile designers to participate, Mumbai is trying to make a difference. For the Winter/ Festive 2011 season, eight Gen Next and nine Emerging designers have been shortlisted. Two designers, Pamela Phlaphongphant and Archana Banchongrati, have been selected from London to showcase their collections on the Mumbai ramps.
