Fashion Designer Gaurang Shah is to present his latest collection titled 'Chitr-Sena' at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 edition to be held in Mumbai. The collection is expected to be presented alongwith a live performance by singer Shubha Mudgal.
Gaurang Shah said in a statement, "Chitr-Sena is like prose from Indian epics, wandering into the wild and exploring the future. The weaves in Kanchipuram bestow a daringly different twist in colours and textures. It took over six months to highlight the various textures in Kanchipuram, beautifully blended with hand-weaves, traditional designs and modern artistry."
"My design revives the art of korvai weaving of Kanchipuram, narrating stories of the wild, woven with modern day textures and colours. Each garment narrates a story from the Indian culture and mythology. It is akin to the oral tradition of storytelling, with weavers weaving stories onto cloth," the designer added.
Shubha Mudgal, a respected figure in the classical music scene in India said about the collaboration, "I look forward greatly to an absorbing fusion of enchanting vintage weave styles and Hindustani classical music and I'm delighted to be a part of this beautiful collaboration."
