In a groundbreaking move that challenges long-held fashion conventions, designer Gaurang Shah chose a heavily pregnant Carol Gracias to be the showstopper at his Lakme Fashion Week showcase.
Now in a re-affirmation of this new tide in fashion, skincare brand Bio-Oil held the #YummiliciousWalk on Mother’s Day Eve. Gracias once again walked the runway, alongside Television actress Shveta Salve and 12 other expecting mothers.
This inclusion of pregnant women in fashion shows is the first step in redeeming an industry which has been repeatedly criticised for promoting an unhealthy body image.
Bio-Oil aims to celebrate motherhood which the company views as “a wonderful journey that should be cherished and rejoiced.”
Speaking of the experience Gracias said that she was “delighted to have been given the opportunity to choreograph the walk with gorgeous women” and that “joining these lovely mothers has been an overwhelming experience.”
Other bigwigs present at the fashion show were celebrity gynaecologist Kiran Coelho and dermatologist Rashmi Shetty.
